Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesSteep ladder to the upstairs room. No lunch available so we did have to go out and get some food. If you intend to stay more than one night, recommend making advance plans to go on an excursion during the day.
Meals were exceptional. Both breakfast and dinner were wonderful and filling. The homemade umeshu was excellent as well. Fantastic ocean view from the farm. There was plenty of space in our upstairs room. Giovanni is a great host who takes pride in what he does.

JapanNo complaints!
One of my favorite stays in Japan! I absolutely loved staying at Giovanni’s Winery and Guest house. He graciously picked me up from the train station and after arriving at the guest house, I was greeted by their sweet goats! It was truly a lovely stay and even better with the delicious homemade Italian food. The house was clean, cute, and very spacious. The loft was unique and I slept like a rock that night. I will miss the goats, beautiful ocean view and food. I hope to stay here again!

FinlandOverall I am going to say the experience was "okay". The best adjective to describe it would be "clunky". We arrived on time and were briefly showed the place. A German family was already there eating loudly in a room right next to ours. During our dinner the other guest mistakenly opened the door and came into our room interrupting our meal. The German chef volunteer spent 2 full hours talking to the other family. So as the dinner dragged on I felt more and more (also as there was a long wait for some courses) that they were the main guests and we were second class citizens. I think we got slower service because the volunteer stopped helping with the food and was just talking with the other guests the entire time. The walls are traditional sliding paper so you can clearly hear every word spoken in the entire building. I was a bit surprised the head chef didn't tell the volunteer or other family that they could be disturbing my wife and I being so loud. Before going to sleep we were asked when we wanted to have breakfast. But it was a trick question. Because when we said 8:30 the owner said that's not possible because it's when the other guests are leaving... But what do they have to do with us and our plans? During the night the man snored the entire night extremely loudly and despite having earplugs, the rooster woke us up at 4:00AM 90 minutes before sunrise and then crowed for another full hour non-stop. In the morning we were woken up by the German family again having breakfast with the volunteer chatting to them again. The dinner was absolutely amazing, but we paid for 6 courses and only got to 5. With the price we paid for everything we really did feel like we were double-booked and the "afterthought" guests. Second-class citizen just feels like a good description. Because we only stayed one night there was no time to pat the animals or really do anything else.
The dinner. Especially the pumpkin pasta was mindblowing.

AustraliaThe description is misleading - we booked a ‚Suite’, with the description saying exactly: ‚This suite comprises 1 living room, 1 separate bedroom and 1 bathroom with a bath and free toiletries.’ What we got was: small loft with no doors, right above the communal kitchen, accessible only by the ladder, and a shared bathroom few rooms down. There was separate bedroom either. There’s no privacy in the rooms, and shower and bath are not private either (that’s a lesser thing, as it’s very common in Japan). We felt like the place was overall nice, but felt tricked by the misleading description and felt like the value for money was terrible due to this. Definitely had significantly better accommodation for the comparable price in more touristy places.
The owners are super lovely and very welcoming. The optional food is very tasty - we loved the appetisers, homemade pasta and dessert. The farm has a nice view and having turkeys and goats nearby seemed really cute.
