Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.

This is an absolute gem. A stunning building with a unique heritage, beautifully modernised and well-appointed. The room was peaceful, comfortable, and overlooked the beautiful Japanese garden. From the initial welcome to the great local tips to the incredible bar to the delicious breakfast, everything was literally perfection. Tome and her husband have created something unique and to epitome of hospitality. It was a perfect way to finish my visit to Kyoto.

This Ryokan is simply perfect. Everything is flawless and the quality of all amenities are fantastic. The host Tome San and her husband are God Given gift. She is so kind and helpful with great personality. She is also super attentive and caring, by giving great tips on restaurants and help on making reservation. She also gave us great recommendations on hidden sightseeing suggestion, which turn out to be awesome. She speaks perfect English and even invited me and my mom for a drink in her private bar. We really had a great stay there and the experience is unforgettable. I will definitely come again if I ever visit Kyoto. The stay is so comfortable and perfect.

It was the highlight of my trip to Kyoto. Tome and her husband were so hospitable, I really felt like home. The room was beautiful and clean, I had a view to the garden - it was all so calm and relaxing. Tome also have many insider tips to places to go to that went past the more “obvious” sightseeing cafes, including places to eat and beautiful cafés. Would definitely come back again!

I’ve stayed in several Ryokans in Japan but this one (Ryokan Mugen) is without question, the very best one could imagine! The owner was the most helpful with respect to selecting places to see as the weather was changing, helped us every day with wonderful places to eat (walking distance from the Ryokan), sharing wonderful stories, helped us with shipping suitcases to the next designation rather than trying to manage carrying them our- selves, and, with her husband, the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet!!

We loved everything. Our room was large, clean, quiet, and overlooked a gorgeous garden. We had the best sleep in years there. Tome, the host was friendly and gave us good suggestions to make the most out of our stay. The location was good, within walking distance to the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle, and there were lots of little hidden gems to explore. We would love to return one day.

Tome, the owner of Mugen, is an exceptionally lovely person who is keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I had stayed at Mugen several years ago when it was newly opened, and I was welcomed back with お帰り (okaeri) - 'welcome home'. It's an exceptionally lovely place to stay. It's a beautiful restored machiya, once belonging to a kimono merchant, located in the quiet lanes to the west of the Imperial Palace gardens. As a solo traveller, my single room is warm, inviting, comfortable, with great facilities, and with a beautiful view across to the restored storehouse and garden. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
