Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe hotel is old, but nothing I didn't expect after reading the reviews. The bed was hard, not the hardest, but top 3 in my journey at this point.
You get what you pay. It was a small old room. Bath was clean. Very close (25 minutes) to the shinkansen station. Staff was helpful, but couldn't speak English. Breakfast was also fine. It's a good option for one night.

United StatesI was fine, but the place is a bit dated.....almost un-self consciously retro! A little pricey, but we were there during a festival and booked last moment.
Nice location, very helpful staff. Convenient parking right under the hotel.

JapanThe underground parking area could have more signage about limited U-turn ability. When we pulled in, there was a space available above ground, but we went underground hoping for a spot in the shade. As it turns out, all the spots were full and it was difficult to turn around, especially with other guests arriving behind us. We eventually reversed the train and got out but lost our original good spot close to check-in.
Loved it! Great value for the product -- a place to stay while on a road trip. A smoking room with a double bed, on the 9th floor, for me, my wife, and our one-year-old daughter -- less than 10,000 yen. Cracks in the walls, limited parking, exceptionally friendly check-in staff with English and Japanese ability, this felt like a comfortable way to travel while saving money.

United StatesStayed on the 7th floor. Probably nothing on the floor had been updated/renovated since the 80’s. Peeling wallpaper, stains on the carpet. Bathroom had black mold hiding in **every** crevice. Bed was uncomfortable. Sheets smelt like vinegar. I know we were staying during a busy time/peak season and it’s natural to raise prices, but I payed almost double what I would give a hostel/capsule hotel and I regretted every extra dollar. Would have been happier sleeping in the car or at a manga-ka.
The staff were cheerful, fast, and accommodating. One of the desk staff helped us with parking by literally leaving the hotel and walking us to the correct garage, and giving us a voucher to park for free. They were absolutely the best part of the stay.

JapanMy disappointment was the room was smoking and I couldn't get it changed. The carpets where stained and nasty and the walls stained and nasty. Try to avoid smoking rooms.
The breakfast was excellent everyday and friendly. The staff were friendly and nice. It was a very convenient location. Near the bus stop to Sendai and easy access to restaurants, malls and shopping.

AustraliaI specified a NON SMOKING room. My room was on a non smoking floor, but the room stank of smoke. It was terrible. i couldn't get rid of the smell. Also, the carpet was "at the end of its life" - threadbare in places and worn out.
Bed linen, pillow and mattress were comfortable and clean. Staff friendly and helpful.

AustriaSome late night public transport options would be great but the hotel is at no fault here.
I was really positively suprised by this hotel as it had so many bad reviews at the time of booking. To be fair, we only tried our luck as it was the last one in the vicinity of the Nebuta festival in Aomori, so did not have any real expectations and just wanted a bed. However, the staff already greeted us really warmly and the room was a typical standard hotel room for business purposes. I am very sensitive towards smoke and the smell of it in rooms that have been converted to non-smoking rooms but I really could not smell a thing in our room. I usually get a bad headache if there is even a trace, so I was really pleasantly suprise as some reviews stated otherwise. The non-smoking and smoking rooms are separated by levels in the hotel, so there was no smell in the halls either. The room had all the normal necessities like soap, fridge, razor, tea, and what have you. We did not go snooping into every corner of the room, but felt that all was nice and clean. There are some convenience stores and many restaurants and izakayas around. Getting to the train station was rather easy with either bus or train, you only had to watch out for the last one around 10pm, otherwise taxis where the only option (around 3000 yen in 2023). There is also a parking space on the hotel property for guests. In total, we had a really lovely time here and would recommend it for everyone travelling on a budget!

JapanMold in the bathroom, stains all over the floor, mold or other growth in the corners of the room, broken and falling-apart furniture, flickering lights…all that was missing were roaches or some kind of bugs. The laundry room was nice to have—except that the washing and drying machines were old and smelly and screamed of being 20 years old. This hotel needs a very serious renovation. The very definition of “seedy” in the phrase “a seedy hotel.”
Easy check-in and fairly close proximity to the city center, train station, and local attractions.

PolandIt's not often that I have so many bad things to say about a place. It's for smokers, so you feel the smell everywhere. We were given an air freshener (it didn't help). Our room welcomed us with a view of a hole in a wall and a stained carpet. The whole place looked outdated and like it wasn't cleanend for ages. Staff didn't speak English (They weren't able to answer me where they serve breakfast).
The price is low, but if you have any other choice - you'd be better off in a different place.

NetherlandsCorners of the room were dirty - looked like build-up of mold? Room was too warm, so had to open a window. We wanted a non-smoking room, but they were out when we booked, so we stayed at the smoking floor, and there was a lingering odor in the hallway and in the room (though, this is to be expected). The pillows felt like weird bean bags on one side, and was a bit uncomfortable to sleep on. Bed was a bit hard.
Location was close to the night life area. 15 minute walk from Hon-Hachinohe train station. Staff was friendly and helpful.

FranceThe room and bathroom have a terrible smell, it was a smocking room but didn’t smell tabacco. We put a lot of products to destroy the smell and keep the window open but it changes nothing, our clothes smelled very bad when we leaved. We’re blaming the management, not the staff.
