We loved our room but you can hear people on the street. Make sure to bring ear plugs to sleep if you are sensitive to noise, this didn’t bother us.

The lounge was great, with drinks and snacks and activities available. The lady that checked us in was very friendly and even took a photo of our family outside the Ryokan

Some minor things: I had to provide my passport at check in. As I arrived before the check in time, I headed out after finishing the check in process. My passport was not returned to me (I also was not careful enough to check). I only remembered while having my meal, and decided to walk back to ensure that my passport was safely kept. I reserved a 10pm slot for the private bath on both nights. On the 2nd night, the reception called to ask if I could go down earlier as there was a cancellation. I was happy to oblige but was given a slightly shorter than the usual 30min time to finish. The guy receptionist also patted me on my arm on 2 occasions. It was a friendly gesture but I didn’t feel comfortable though as it is not usual in japan and I was a solo female traveller. Lastly, on check out, I had intended to keep my luggage with the ryokan till evening. But I was told that they can only keep till 1pm as they will be closed for the day for cleaning. This should have been made know to the guest much earlier as it can affect one’s decision whether to find an alternative accommodation.

I love the tatami room! I had such a good rest. Only thing is there is no window, so I don’t think I could have stayed longer than 2 nights. The location is very nice - near to the bustling areas but very quiet and peaceful.

A little stuffy and warm when we arrived. We were happy to have multiple windows for a crosswind.

Great location! It was a little back from the action so calmer yet close to everything. The staff were all very sweet and helpful.

It was a great room, and I liked how the lounge on the ground floor had little cultural activities and refreshments! It was fun to try the calligraphy, paper sumo, and spinning tops. The staff were very friendly, and they were welcoming of us storing our luggage for the day and occasionally dropping by to use the lounge and toilet on the ground floor on the day of check out, even after we were technically checked out of the hotel, which made me feel very taken care of.

Bathroom slightly cramped, views from room so/so. There is (as advertised) no breakfast or other food on site, which detracts a little from the ryokan experience, but there are many excellent and affordable restaurants nearby that the staff pointed out to us.

Location is fantastic, stone's throw from Senso-ji and Asakusa Station. The half-hour private bath is wonderful. Room very spacious for price with comfortable futons and traditional feel. Staff very knowledgeable about local sights and food, and very accommodating to foreigners and incredibly helpful. Excellent value for money.

the bathroom was on the smaller side, which proved a bit inconvenient

Our stay at Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa was a genuine Japanese retreat. The traditional room exuded tranquillity, featuring a comfortable futon bed for a restful sleep. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly, going above and beyond to assist us throughout our stay. We particularly enjoyed the common area, offering free drinks and traditional Japanese games. Overall, the hotel provided an authentic and memorable experience, perfect for those seeking a taste of Japanese hospitality. Highly recommended.

There is nothing, I did not like it.

The staff is absolutely amazing. Friendly, kind, extremely helpful. They also have a room with typical Japanese activities (calligraphy, origami) - it is quite special- great for kids or adults. Very quite place despite being so close to the very busy temple.

Authentic experience right at one of Tokyo's most popular tourist spots.
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Japanese-Style Economy Room

It may not fit the concept, but something like a bigger chair with backrest would be cool to relax during the day. Also, while the location can be seen as an upside, be prepared for masses of tourists at this spot especially in peak season (no worries: in the night it gets calm enough and is not loud).

It certainly was an authentic experience that can't compare with that of a bigger chain hotel. It is located right at one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo (Asakusa shrine). The bathroom is rather small but clean and has all of what's needed. Hot water filled up every day for tea in thermos bottle.

Since the hotel was completely booked for the night I wasn’t able to get everything I wanted, but this was understandable and the staff was very friendly about it.

This was my first time staying at a ryokan and it was wonderful. The bath was great, the rooms were nice and cozy, and the lounge was fun. The staff was extremely helpful, and was able to take care of any worry I had.

There was nothing wrong with my stay. The only possible negative would be that the bath is not an Onsen, but that is clearly stated in the description. But you should also be aware to listen for the telephone if you have reserved a bath time because it is a little quiet and you could miss it. But even if you do miss it like I did, he will just schedule the time after it.

The man that is at the front desk is extremely kind to foreign guests and communicates to the best of his ability in English. He even took a picture of me outside of the hotel in front of one of the towers that you can see from the street leading up to the hotel. I got the traditional room with the tatami mats and bed. I was surprised how comfortable it was. And the location is right next to Sensoji, so it was nice to be able to just walk right to it from the hotel.

Nothing really. If I had to mention something; there is no breakfast facility with the ryokan, as also mentioned, but this is not a concern, as the neighborhood is abundant with places to eat.

Very friendly staff, also english speaking. Accomodating to already leave luggage prior to the (strict) earliest check-in time and to register a private time slot for the onsen at the premises. The common room downstairs is nicely equiped with Japanese crafts to try out (caligraphy, origami), as well as free coffee and tea. The nice traditional Japanese rooms are exactly as expected.
