Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOn our first night we had the "Take" course dinner menu, which was a little too much food for us. Wish we'd ordered the smaller menu. We recommend it for adventurous eaters.
Seikoro was so beautifully decorated, and our room was bigger than any other we stayed in in Japan. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We slept comfortably on our futons on the tatami mats. The ryokan's location was perfect as well, down a quiet side street but just a block from the Kamogawa and a subway station.

IrelandThe only small thing that took you out of the experience was the proximity to the main road. Kyoto, unfortunately, is not free of boy racers and motorbike enthusiasts who like to rev their engines.
This was an experience of a life time. We were treated with such grace and attention (it was a little overwhelming at the beginning). But we got used to it. We opted for a traditional room with tatami flooring. It was a stunning suite with a garden view. It was so spacious and airy and tranquil. Every time we returned from a day of exploring we would be greeted with tea and sweets in our room. The staff were so attentive and brilliant. One morning we opted for the Japanese breakfast which was refreshing and filling and our room attendant, Hiro, explained each dish to us, even when she had other rooms to attend to. We also did an evening dinner (but be sure to book 3 days in advance for preparation). 10 course dinner with some of the most delicious food. Again, Hiro, explained every dish. We had this in our room in our Yukata's. One of the best experiences. Like living through a Studio Ghibli film.

United KingdomNothing not a single thing. I cannot fault it.
Simply stunning. Lovely to stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn. Our lady was exceptional, giving first class treatment in talking us through many dishes she served, constantly topping our water, cleaning our teapot. V filling so be warned and you get to try things you wouldn’t get these days or in chain hotels. The onsen was a relief from the long journey. The futons v comfy. It was so unique to switch off, enjoy tranquility.

United KingdomThis was a unique experience and a must in Japan. The room was very spacious and clean. The mattresses were very comfortable. The wooden bath was fantastic. There were additional amenities such as a Japanese tea set to use, traditional outfits to wear and the staff gifted us some Japanese socks. We did not use the communal bath.

United StatesCheck in is at 3 and checkout is at 1030 so if you stay only one night it is a brief window. The nightly cost is high so, of course, whether it is worth it or not will depend on your means and how you choose to spend your money.
The property is beautiful and elegant. Being there is like being in a meticulously crafted period movie set. It is a fantasy with staff and guests playing their parts. Staff is very attentive. I know that the memory of this ryokan will stay with me. In house onsen is lovely and adds to the sense of understated luxury.

United StatesThis was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The ryokan is nearly 200 years old, and you get a 5-star experience staying here. The staff is so kind and helpful. If you need anything, you simply let them know. The onsen experience was awesome, as was the multi-course meal that was served to us. This is perhaps one of the best hotel stay experiences I've had in my entire life.

ItalyThe explanation of the food during dinner is detailed but in a basic english. Sometimes, it was not easy to understand properly. However, this situation made us feel living the authenticity.. So, not a total negative point.
Everything has been amazing! A full immersion in Japanese culture! The staff is kind and considerate, the rooms directly from a movie, the dinner delicious. We felt welcome from the first minute to the last. Our host was lovely: she took very well care of us. She made sure to satisfy our needs and requests in such a kind and professional way. This warm, welcoming behavior was far beyond what we could expect, and it was absolutely excellent.

United StatesMosquitoes in the garden but there are screens on the windows and doors facing the garden. Plus, they provided a plug-in mozzie repellent that really prevented any bites.
Absolutely beautiful property with fantastic service. We grabbed the big family room with the garden view and it was wonderful. Our room attendant was fantastic, she took such great care of us. Dinner was 6 courses, all high quality and very diverse plates. Of course, we liked some flavors more than others but everything was served with such attention to detail it was hard not to be completely impressed. The futons were super comfy, the onsen was great and the en-suite bathroom was huge. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
