Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThe bath in the room was a bit odd, built in on a platform. I suppose it has been added later. The hotel is quite far from the nearest train stop
This was the first place we stayed on our trip in Japan. The hotel is very original with a very authentic breakfast. We enjoyed the breakfast very much. You felt like being cleansed eating

United StatesThe property is so clean, air conditioned and smells amazing! The location is perfect, outside of town by a 5 or 10 min walk. All of the was so sweet and even gave my boyfriend a gift when they found out it was his birthday.

United KingdomA minor thing, but they only gave us one toilet roll for our stay. I am 100% sure they would've given us another if we'd asked though (we were out for most of the day during our stay so it ended up not being an issue).
The room was lovely - a traditional sort of look but with all modern practicalities. The staff were brilliant and let us store our luggage the morning of arrival ahead of check-in so we could look around Osaka. They also helped us book a taxi to our next destination during check-out. The accommodation offers a free meditation session on Friday and Saturday evenings that we weren't able to attend due to other commitments, but looked really good. All standard amenities provided (towels, PJs, slippers, toiletries, etc.). The location was good and relatively close to public transport and convenience stores. We had no trouble sleeping, though the area felt a little louder at night than other Japanese cities we stayed in.

New ZealandBecause the hotel is on a main road, it can be a little noisy with traffic noise (nothing severe, this isn't New York!) during the evening. I am not a light sleeper but it could affect you if you were on the side closer to the road.
I loved the peaceful nature of the hotel. The tatami, smell of incense and the exceptional cleanliness. The location was a 10 minute walk from the station I chose to travel from and 5-6 min from a variety of convenience stores.

CanadaExceeded expectations. Close to Tennoji park, walking distance to the palace and Namba. The staff were wonderful, the room large and immaculate. Breakfast was generous and made with care, and the ladies that served it were so thoughtful and kind. I discovered a food allergy while in Japan and they carefully accommodated it. My father and I had a great stay there for a week, it was a great base to explore Osaka, and day trips to Nara and Kyoto. I’d definitely stay there again.

FranceThe location is a bit off the beaten path, but it’s still close to metro stations and walkable in either direction (north or south) to busier areas with restaurants and more. The room was small (we expected this) but space optimized well.

Czech RepublicOur room lacked a window, preventing fresh air circulation, which was a downside. Additionally, the location is surrounded by car garages and not such nice streets. It is of course fully safe like everywhere in Japan and as a bonus it's still relatively walkable to the vibrant Dotonburi area. Nothing to dislike, we really enjoyed our stay but just to be aware of these factors.
This hotel offers a serene Buddhist atmosphere, complemented by a delightful breakfast and exceptionally friendly staff. It was a wonderful experience overall.

United KingdomThe ensuite bathroom had a steep step into it from the bedroom which was a bit hazardous during the night if we required the toilet. I was concerned that we would forget about the step and trip over.
The hotel was a so zen and the staff were incredibly helpful. It was in a quiet area so required walking but worth it. We did the kanji copying in our room which was fun and we did the streamed meditation which was also good.

United KingdomAs much as we love Japanese food, we are not yet eaters of Japanese food at breakfast, so it would have been nice to have some cereal or toast/bread and butter/jam on offer.
This is an oasis of calm in a busy city! The lobby was very welcoming with nice lighting and a lovely smell of incense. It is a Buddhist hotel, afterall! The rooms are very well thought out and comfortable with nice slippers and bathroom vanity sets and water. The beds were very comfortable with good quality sheets. We were just a subway stop away from DenDen Town and Dotonpori etc so although a trek from Shin-Osaka station, conveniently located for some of the central areas. The location of the hotel is a little strange as it's on a road full of car dealerships and garages! It was an 8 minute walk to two subway stations.
