Hotel Pineapple was the best hotel in all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 week trip to California. We had some great hotels on our trip, but the Hotel Pineapple went the extra mile. We found all the hotel staff to be warm, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Totally excellent. Also the rooms were well thought out and were spotless. The bathroom was spacious and modern. Altogether faultless. Oh and last but not least, the cups in the room were crockery and not paper and we also had two real glass beakers, not the usual plastic ones.

This Santa Barbara Motel, 15 minutes’ drive from the University of California Santa Barbara, offers a complimentary daily breakfast buffet and free bicycles to its guests during their stay. Great place with nice and service minded staff. The room appeared new and clean, and the motel area very well maintained. Bikes for guest’s disposal for free. Close to beaches, in a pleasant nighborhood.

Centrally located in Santa Cruz, this inn is across from Main Beach. The inn features a courtyard area with picnic tables, an outdoor pool and guest rooms with free WiFi. Room was clean and beautiful, beds were comfortable, but I would like to point out that the bathroom /shower was 10/10 (very clean, comfortable, awesome job with the tiles). Next time we pass through the area we will be to pay this place another visit. 10/10!!!

Black Bear Lodge is situated in South Lake Tahoe, roughly 0.8 km from the lake and 1.6 km from The Gondola at Heavenly. All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV and a gas fireplace. The lodge exceeded our expectations; it is so big and clean, and there was a coffee machine. The cabin was adorably decorated. "I loved the vintage sewing machine table!" and we got a fireplace which was a lovely addition to the cebine. The host was welcoming and friendly. They left us a little congratulations note with some chocolate. Thank you for the nice gesture.

Julian Gold Rush Hotel in Julian has a garden and a terrace. The accommodation features a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service and luggage storage for guests. Loved, loved, loved everything about this hotel! The room was tiny (so I fudged the trick question in the survey about the room size!!) but that is part of the charm and the beds are high so plenty of room for bags beneath. There is no fridge or TV - perfect - this is not a chain, it is the most beautiful historic building and we loved that we can stay and be part of the experience. Everywhere you look is nostalgia from the old radio playing vintage music. And then there is the breakfast, amazing and lots of outdoor seating on the veranda or in the secluded garden. The staff were the icing on the cake - if you have stuff to refrigerate they will happily do that for you.

Set in Palm Springs, less than 1 km from O'Donald Golf Course, Holiday House Palm Springs offers accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a restaurant. The breakfast was awesome. Lots of good food, sanitary conditions were excellent, outdoor seating with patio heaters made dining comfortable and safe. The pool was terrific too, warm and lots of loungers.
