Hotel Pineapple was the best hotel in all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 week trip to California. We had some great hotels on our trip, but the Hotel Pineapple went the extra mile. We found all the hotel staff to be warm, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Totally excellent. Also the rooms were well thought out and were spotless. The bathroom was spacious and modern. Altogether faultless. Oh and last but not least, the cups in the room were crockery and not paper and we also had two real glass beakers, not the usual plastic ones.

The location, room and staff were amazing! We loved all the little touches including the room decor, buffet breakfasts and pool. Our room had a view of the beach and pier and was quiet. We had a balcony and left the door open for fresh air during the day. We really enjoyed staying at Ocean Park Inn! It was really good for families and would recommend. The cleaners were lovely and our room was made up every day.

Black Bear Lodge is situated in South Lake Tahoe, roughly 0.8 km from the lake and 1.6 km from The Gondola at Heavenly. All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV and a gas fireplace. The lodge exceeded our expectations; it is so big and clean, and there was a coffee machine. The cabin was adorably decorated. "I loved the vintage sewing machine table!" and we got a fireplace which was a lovely addition to the cebine. The host was welcoming and friendly. They left us a little congratulations note with some chocolate. Thank you for the nice gesture.

Julian Gold Rush Hotel in Julian has a garden and a terrace. The accommodation features a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service and luggage storage for guests. Loved, loved, loved everything about this hotel! The room was tiny (so I fudged the trick question in the survey about the room size!!) but that is part of the charm and the beds are high so plenty of room for bags beneath. There is no fridge or TV - perfect - this is not a chain, it is the most beautiful historic building and we loved that we can stay and be part of the experience. Everywhere you look is nostalgia from the old radio playing vintage music. And then there is the breakfast, amazing and lots of outdoor seating on the veranda or in the secluded garden. The staff were the icing on the cake - if you have stuff to refrigerate they will happily do that for you.

Set in Palm Springs, less than 1 km from O'Donald Golf Course, Holiday House Palm Springs offers accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a restaurant. Wow is all I can say. I went with my partner and two of our friends to this beautiful property right in the middle of Palm Springs, yet feels a world away. The hotel has anything you could need - breakfast, lunch or dinner to order, drinks or food to order right at the pool, a gift shop, a large pool (heated), hot tub, misters, calming music, mini-bar in the rooms, fires at night and separate cabanas (even shuffleboard!). The staff was SO friendly and helpful, always went out of their way to make sure everyone had what they needed. Dogs are also allowed which was great and such a fun addition to see. The rooms are huge and spotless, large bathrooms and beautifully decorated. The hotel is in the historic tennis district toward the mountains and with incredible views. Very quiet at night and really can't say enough nice things about staying here. It definitely feels mid-century, but with modern amenities. Would definitely stay here again - stayed 4 nights and did not want to leave!
