The area had a place to shop and food outlets and was within easy walking distance of Porto's main centre. One huge advantage is that, being at a higher level, when you walk across the bridge (or catch the metro across) to the North side of the river, you are almost at the top of Porto, which saves a long climb.
There are also interesting sights and sites in Vila Nova de Gaia itself, such as the monastery and the views over the Douro to Porto. The monastery was shut when we went but may be open later. Mostly we went further afield so I cannot comment on much that was there. The Jardim de Morro is worth a visit, especially if you like live music performers and good views.

VNDG gives the most amazing views of Porto.
VNDG gives the most amazing views of Porto. A short walk across the bridge to the city. Its flat where I stayed but the city is very steep with lots of steps so wear sneakers. The tiled churches as stunning. Doing all the touristy things - I caught the cable car, the tram, the furnicular, shopped the markets, visited the churches, climbed the tower, booked for the Livraria Lella, had a glass of wine at the market, went to wine bars, Time Out market for dinner and Portuguese tarts with coffee.
I had a fabulous time and visited World of Wine as Porto is a Great Wine Capital.

Beautiful part of Porto, right over the river with plenty to do. Most of the Porto wine "caves" are on this side of the river but getting across is a quick uber ride. We did a Tuk Tuk tour as well and got to enjoy a Fado performance at night. New Years Eve dinner cruise was great but book ahead so you don't miss out! I would definitely visit again!

The area has plenty of interesting things to visit.
The area has plenty of interesting things to visit. Of course, the region is very well known for the vineyards and the respective Port wine cellars, which you can visit and even have a wine tasting. A walk by the river is also recommended.

We had an outstanding stay. The staff was highly service minded at check-in and check-out (Fransesca), amazing view of Porto from our hotel/room and a free upgrade was a very pleasant surprise. The breakfast at the terrace was an excellent start of the day. Yeatman's proximity to the WoW (World of Wine) museum was brilliant and the museum was very interesting in a modern educational setting. We will come back and stay at the Yeatman again.
Golden Tulip Porto Gaia Hotel Is one of the best hotels i was in my travelling. The crew, Juliana and Anderson were very helpful and kind. Juliana took care to all my request and was kind in helping anything, therefore i thank her a lot for making my stay much more pleasant. The room was amazing, everything was more than perfect, the furniture the view is outstanding. Definitely a wise decision i made in life to go and take this hotel.
Miguel provided the best service of all of the hotels we stayed at during our two weeks in Europe. We can't praise him enough for what a fantastic job he did making us feel welcome and at home. Any hotel would be lucky to have him! We've recommended The Rebello to all of our friends who have asked for Porto recs! Being across the river was much more to our taste being able to walk across rather than be stuck in city center.
We were going through a lot during our stay. A family member was unexpectedly hospitalized in Porto. It was nice to get out of the city at night and relax with the ocean breeze. Walking on the beach paths in the morning was peaceful, stopping along the way with many cafes. The apartment provided everything you need including a Wonderful ocean view, clean, safe and great staff. Lots of space, great for couples or family.
Apartment was really nice, clean, spacious and bright. King size bed was very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Close to everything, we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, both in Vila Nova de Gaia and in Porto. Street was quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Jorge is a fabulous host, super friendly and so helpful. I would most definitely return and highly recommend.
Great location in Vila Nova de Gaia looking over at Porto, surrounded by port cellars, chocolate museum/factory, and near the cable car.
Very pleasant staff, great breakfast (and coffee!).
The apartment was clean, functional and generally comfortable. The hob, microwave, and fridge were invaluable when travelling with a toddler, and the pull out sofa bed was ideal for her.
This Hotel is PERFECTO

Breakfast is absolutely amazing,
Hotel environment and interior in delightful,
The Spa is up stunning,
Room is spacious and very comfortable beds.
I extended two more nights because I liked the hotel and Porto is a beautiful city.
Just everything I needed to enjoy this special trip.
Due to a cancellation from another hotel, I had to quickly find a last minute stay for one night and this hotel was perfect for that. Clean, friendly staff, comfortable, and located just off the metro/bus line and just a short 15-20 minute walk to Porto. Room included a small fridge and I LOVE that the windows opened!
Location location location is the best. Close to metro, bus or train. Short walk to main attractions such Porto caves, restaurants, bars and the bridge to the city centre.
You can find the kettle and cups in the shared area which I liked as not many hotels in Portugal have them.
Highly recommended for short stay. 😊
Everything. This was my favorite hotel in Portugal. Exceptional across the board. It checked all the boxes. The view is breathtaking. The staff is wonderful. The food is excellent. The different bars are delightful. Outstanding location. Wow! 🥰
Carla the host was absolutely incredible! every hotel needs someone like her for the best tips for the city!
The property exceeded my expectations offering the best views of Porto from our bedroom!
I would definitely stay again!
To be honest, we liked everything about The Lodge Hotel - great location, friendly and really helpful staff, fantastic room with great views over the river and old Porto, wonderful breakfast - I could go on
Outstanding hotel with ideal location facing Porto across the river Douro. Very good restaurants. Beautifully appointed room, spacious and with a terrace. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
The location is priceless as the view from the Living room is stunning. We met people who stayed in good hotels in Porto who lost for words when they sav.oured the view we had
I loved the location, the restaurants were close the city was a 20 minutes walk to Vila Nova de Gaia the second town to Porto city. All the little shops close to the apartment.
Great location, just a couple streets away from one of the most picturesque parts of porto. Hotel has been recently developed and all fittings have been done to a high level.
Beautiful hotel, the detail and service was exceptional.
Great location to explore all the best Porto has to offer
Breakfast was incredible and rooms extremely comfortable.
