We were there to see our granddaughter and we ate at macca's. We found it easy to get around as we had a navman. We loved that you could sit on the little portch and look out over the playing field saw some kids practising football was nice, very quiet. Well set out thank you.
We intended to stop for one night but stayed an extra day so we could see more of the town. We took tour of the gold battery and visited the ambulance museum as well as a trip to Towers Hill. So much history everywhere. You could spend hours just checking out the old buildings. We would have loved to do the evening ghost walk but were not there on the right night. The town had a friendly atmosphere and accommodated tourists well. If you like cickenss and ducks, visit Lissner Park to see the duck pond. So much to see we needed more time.
If you’re looking at going for the country music festival, Don’t! It was the biggest disappointment of all time. There was hardly any country and the time wasted by the committee with the competing competitors was a laugh. Expecting really great bands , didn’t mind paying the price to get in but no , nothing really great at all. No wonder even the community of charters towers didn’t even go. Speaking to locals at places in the town they say it has been that way for quite awhile now. Something needs to be done!
A historic gold mining town with many of the original building from yesteryear still standing and in excellent condition. People living here very friendly a wonderful North Queensland out back town to visit stay and enjoy.
Beautiful clean & tidy little town with many beautiful old heritage buildings and so much history to explore. The old Stock Exchange Arcade, Towers Hill Lookout with the World War II Bunkers & the Venus Gold Battery are but a few.
Absolutely loved Charters Towers. From the little cafe’s and country hospitality to taking a drive to the weir and exploring the city we loved it. We did the Long Horn tour, took dinner up to the lookout and saw the rock wallabies. During the day we checked out the war bunkers and walked the town. Checked out the wall of history and the big world map. All the old buildings are beautiful. Such great mining history. Would definitely recommend stopping in for a few nights.
