The pool is part jacuzzi, so that was a pleasant surprise. Quiet surroundings with a fantastic paddy field view. Kitchen had all the necessary utensils with a decent supply of spices and condiments. Would definitely come back here.

The little house on the tree is pretty unique! while staying there for one night we saw: monkeys, chipmunks, lizard and frog. I adore animals, so for me it was the greatest pleasure. The host is a nicest man. He served us a perfect breakfast and also gave an interview to mu husband, since he was shooting a video about the country. I would like to come back to this place one day to stay a little longer. Big thanks!

Perfect location right on the beach and very well kept. Rooms were excellent, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was perfect, varied every day including Sri Lankan delights!

My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Without a doubt, if I ever find myself in Sri Lanka again, Charming Dark Lodge will be my first choice for accommodation. Great location with direct view of a great shoreline...could leave the balcony doors opens and enjoy the fresh air and ocean waves day and night- great white noise while sleeping You could take advantage of the comfort and connection to the local community and very near nightlife... a quick drive either east into the core of Weligama (or westward as well), while being in a chilled, relaxed segment of the merissa-weligama-midigama shoreline. It was peaceful, quiet and sociable with beach shacks right in front to get to know other tourists and hospitable Sri Lankans running the beachside venues, and family run restaurants next door...either side of the hotel. The staff and owners at funky sol were great and I really enjoyed the communal social elements - restaurant/bar was welcoming creating great ambiance to get to know others since the restaurant bar gets a lot of patrons from neighboring hotels. Makes You feel a part of a community from the first day. Easy to get a tuk tuk ride since there's a defacto tuk tuk stand close by - 100m from entrance. Was a great option to decompress and integrate into a local beach community
