I found Ahana Hillside, searching accomodation near Gordonvale. If you are looking for safe, elegant ambience and tranquility surrounded by rainforest near main highway, this accommodation is your great choice. The Double Room with Mountain View is compact, however a glass window and double doors with glasses and louvre gave us an impression as if we were in a spacious room. There is a built-in wardrobe, so plenty of room for our luggage. The near white walls, a white quilt cover and muted chic coloured rug created a sense of peace and made us relaxing. Garden features, covered veranda, communal space are designed with lots of care, reminding me of Aman Resorts in Indonesia. Our host is very friendly and professional. Here are some points you need to know before booking. This is not a motel but a kind of an elegant hostel, which means the bathroom is not ensuite and the car park is a little bit away from your room. The wall is not quite sound proofed as you might hear the shower is running. The turn off onto a gravel driveway to access this property from Bruce Highway is discrete, difficult to find but perfectly private. Please find the next driveway, passed Snake Creek going north, found on LHS. There are a large dining table and chairs, also couches, so you can enjoy meals and cups of tea with your loved one.

The accommodation was terrific and the setting was wonderful. Tranquil forest with an abundance of wildlife at the doorstep. Great walking trails are also available directly from the accommodation (no need to pack the car!). An easy picturesque drive from Cairns and a world away from the hustle and bustle.

The hotel manager arranged late check in for us. Mary-lee was amazing, friendly and made our stay enjoyable. We forgot my daughters toy in the room and she keep it for us until I could arrange to collect it. Our room was clean and a good size. The hotel was quiet and we felt safe.

Very quirky and interesting town. Tourist info was helpful. Great fun doing Babinda kayaking, although we got horrendously sunburnt. Not much in the way of eating places unfortunately. Great parking. Nice location just off hwy, but still tranquil. Would recommend a short visit.

Babinda Quarters is the converted nurses' quarters of Babinda Hospital. It is an older style government building, very solid and grand. We had an upstairs room with a great view over lawns and garden and lovely fresh breeze. The bathroom was good with a good shower. The bed was very comfortable. Our stay was on a Saturday evening and there was music late from a local club.

Lovely old main street. Great old movie theatre (Friday Saturday and Sunday nights only). Couple of interesting pubs. Great bakery at the bottom of the main street and good cafe (The Kool Spot) at the top of the main street.

Lovely old feel village surrounded by amazing natural wonders. Definitely worth staying. The Babinda Boulders is spectacular and very popular. Read and respect the indigenous history, it will enhance your apprecatiion. Worth a week but you can do a lot in two days.
