I loved Dona Netinha, she hosts the restaurant also called Bela Sombra, where the hotel guests have breakfast. She is a wonderful person and a great cook: I had a delicious breakfast, and for dinner: the best cachupa and another time a traditional dish from São Nicolau called modje (caldo de carne de cabrito e legumes). She is very interesting, has great stories to tell if you ask, has great recommendations of stuff to do, knows the trekkings as she use to do them when she was younger and her knees were not giving her trouble. Dona Netinha is adorable! She is also discrete, she leaves you alone if you don't want to talk. I just asked alot of questions. Bela Sombra is a really nice place to stay, spotless clean, the bed is confortable, has hot water and great wi-fi connection, the staff is friendly and the location great. I strongly recommend
The real Cape Verde, still unspoilt by tourism in 2020.
The real Cape Verde, still unspoilt by tourism in 2020. Locals will tell you "Bom dia" (Good morning) as you cross them on the street. Conversely, information is short for the tourist, restaurants may have no sign or menu information on the outside. Getting wi-fi is a problem, try a local SIM card at the CVMóvel office in the main square (only monday to freeday). Difficult to find an open bar for breakfast on sunday (go to Alice). Rent a pick up at the Shell station and visit the unspoilt beach of Baixo Rocha and Carbeirinho tide pools.
