The area around Portomarin is very beautiful and scenic!
There's a very interesting story about the current Portomarin that would make a visitor want to go around and see the city, it's historical landmarks and surrounding areas.

A small town on the Camino de Santiago - and anyone who’s walked The Way will know what that implies. Much of the economy of places like this, especially in catering and accommodation, is geared to servicing Camino pilgrims. Consequently there are albergues and pilgrim menus (pilgrim menu norm seems to be around €14 at present, still fair value) aplenty but by 10 p.m., and outside the Camino “walking season”, lots of places are closed. So, not perhaps the ideal place for nightclubbers. Having said that we enjoyed our stay, it’s a pretty place with great views but not a great deal of history on show - the original village having been swallowed up by the creation of a dam lake. The church was rescued and moved up the hill to its present location in the town centre brick by brick. It’s interesting to be able to just see the numbers painted on the masonry that ensured every block went in the right place. One heck of a jigsaw!

Portomarin is a very beautiful tiny little town right on the Camino de Santiago. It has a few beautiful churches and the town itself is on the banks of a river which makes it very picturesque. It is quiet and small, except for the pilgrims and that makes it very quaint.

Friendly staff provided excellent communication.
Friendly staff provided excellent communication. Could speak perfect English, which is rare in the in this area. Facilities, while basic, was perfect and spotless. Had the best nights sleep in a long time. Bed was so comfortable. Bag collection service operates from here also, which was a bonus. There is a lovely bar/restaurant literally yard away that had very reasonable menu. Price was very reasonable.I was very pleased with my choice.

Portomarin was just a rip off for all the pilgrims walking the Camino. It seems as if the whole town is just there to milk as much from the tourists as possible. We went for lunch into a bar and ordered drinks, never got any tapas like the other locals sitting there. Went out for Dinner and chose the Pergrinos Menu which was horrific food! A beef stew which consisted of 3pieces of beef and some reheated old potato chips! My Bolognaise was condensed Tomato Sauce with undercooked packet Pasta. The chef should be fired for even thinking that Menu was acceptable. But it seems like they don't care because they know you're only there for 1 night! I would never return to Portomarin!
Central location in Portomarin, nice and quiet in the evening but still convenient to shopping and historical sites (and the Camino route the next morning). Louisa and her mother were both incredibly friendly and had good recommendations for the local area. The pension is right across the street from an excellent small cafe and wine bar. I especially appreciated the spacious outdoor deck for washing clothes and line-drying!
The photos on the website don’t do the hotel justice. My room was much nicer than the photos would suggest and was a luxury after a long rainy day on the Camino. I also had a beautiful view of the river. The hotel is also right on the Camino so no extra steps. Although I had a private room, I really liked that the hotel also offered a bunk room for pilgrims on the ground floor.
This place is great! Right in Portomarin, one of the cutest towns on the last 100km of the Camino. Friendly owner. Great system of key code entry to hotel and room, I wish more Camino hotels would do this! Room had a sweet little balcony with flowers overlooking the street. Building had two little terraces. Coin op laundry available. Highly recommend!
The location was ideal for travelers on the Camino, especially those who cannot handle the steep flight of stairs into Portomarin (the walk to the location is a gentle upward slope). The garden is lovely and there is a view of the river. The place is spotlessly clean. The bathroom (with towel warmers) was great! I also appreciated the little desk.
I would recommend having dinner at the restaurant for authentic local food. The view of the lake is spectacular and the staff is really lovely. The property is a little out of the town of Portomarin but they do offer a service to pick you up and drop you off at the town which is really handy if you're doing the Camino.
Location -- short walk from the entrance to Portomarin. Cozy and clean, and nice reception. Room was quiet and charming, and beds were comfortable. Common bathroom was also nice and clean. There is a grocery store nearby and place to eat are a bit of a walk way.
Location near to the Church and main square in Portomarin. Great stop for Pilgrims on the Camino. Washing machine and dryer available at a cost. I had a clean comfy private room with with shared bathroom. There is a kitchen down stairs which is handy.
It was a bit of a challenge to get to Portomarin. Be sure to read the guidebook BEFORE you choose one of the THREE ways. Our path took us to the gorge!!! Wicked! And then the many steep steps to get to town. We loved the hotel and the GREAT breakfast.
Very nice and quiet hostal to rest after a day of the Camino at the center of Portomarin. Fanny, the hostess was super nice explaining everything we could see and even the route to get back to the Camino.
Great panoramic view of Portomarin. This albergue has everything and they even allowed me to have the room just for myself. The shared kitchen/bathroom/toilet is just perfect.
good location in a beautiful city. Great stay for the Camino. The resturant located on the property was very good and had great service. Hotel staff was very friendly
Felt just like a number when checking in. There is no atmosphere in this hotel. OK for one night but I would stay somewhere else next time in this beautiful town
Absolutely perfect for us. Just a bit of confusion at the start as there are 2 places in Portomarin with Porto Santiago in their name. Staff very helpful.
