The apartment, hotel in Saint-Rabier

Our hosts were wonderful: welcoming, with friendly information and respectful of privacy all at once. The dog was adorable, the cat sweet, and even the chickens behaved politely: they said hello from a comfy distance and stayed quiet all night through late morning. The recently renovated home is located about 300m across the road and RR tracks from a quaint town that appears to be in process of becoming a thriving hub for both expat retirees and younger french families. We had a liesurely 17 minute drive to the Lascaux cave exhibit. chateaux, farms of all sorts, fresh foods from these, from eggs, foie gras, and honey, to milk, and more

Le Clos Chalmon Chambre d'hôte, hotel in Saint-Rabier

Le Clos Chalmon Chambre d'hôte offers accommodations in Montignac, 2.6 miles from Lascaux IV and 18 miles from Hautefort Castle.

We stayed at Le Clos Chalmon Chambre for one night and were greeted warmly by John Matthew upon our arrival. The drive down the road to the B&B is lined with beautiful, centuries old trees, which provide a beautiful entry to the centuries old home. John Matthew oriented us to the lovely property and assisted in getting our luggage to the room. The home is over 7 centuries old and has been lovingly renovated by the owners with period furnishings, quality bathroom fixtures, and quality bed linens. The surrounding countryside is picturesque and warrants time to sit outside and enjoy it. John Matthew kindly scheduled dinner reservations for us at a fabulous restaurant, Auberge Le Moustier, whose food is Michelin star quality. The breakfast included wonderful plum and blackberry jams made by the owners from property fruit, which were fabulous. They also have range free chickens, and made herb infused scrambled eggs for us. Lascaux museums are close by and a great way to learn about the cave paintings. There are also many historic chateau’s to visit and the Vizere river is beautiful. We enjoyed out stay and Le Clos Chalmon Chambre and highly recommend it.

Excellent Hosts with a lovely home renovated to include two (more?) entirely separate accommodations in a lovely garden setting. Wonderful spot to stay before/after viewing the Lascaux cave exhibit, while exploring the chateaux and other delights of the Lore… or as writer’s, painter’s simple dreamer’s retreat. Super friendly dog, cat, chickens. Nespresso, mineral water, wine, biscuits generously provided. Wifi was fast. Shower hot. Terrace lovely for dining al fresco. We enjoyed a walk into the quiet town and were glad to get a quick morning start on our visit to the overly quaint/touristic town of Lascaux and tour of The famous cave painting exhibit—under 20 mins by car—before a long drive in driving rains to Chartres.
