The Riverside, hotel in Burneside

In Kendal town center, the Riverside Hotel is a 17th-century building with a state-of-the-art recreation club. Rooms have river views, and Windermere and the Yorkshire Dales are a 15-minute drive...

The hotel is located alongside the Rive Kent and has the most lovely vibe because of it, even when overcast, rainy and cold. The Reception, breakfast and property staff were helpful, professional, accommodating and excellent to deal with. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean, well appointed and the heated towel rack is wonderful. The bed was comfortable and the bedding is very clean and of a good quality. The breakfast is a highlight ( the Chef made me porridge, no sugar, no cream, just plain hot porridge ) it's possibly the best breakfast overall at a hotel I've had in quite a while. Being in easy walking distance to Kendal high street, associated shopping and eateries, pubs, cafes, local transport, The Riverside makes for an ideal landing pad for visitors and business people alike. I'd love to return for another stay and spend more time in the district exploring the beautiful Cumbrian countryside, villages and towns. Worth noting: the local food, bakery and coffee adds to the daily charm of Kendal.

Burneside is really just a part of Kendal which isn’t a big town. It overlooks the central town area and has easy access to shops and restaurants, it’s very handy for the M&S and Booths foodhalls if you want to eat at home. There are a couple of nice parks, attractive little streets of quaint old buildings and it’s close to the 555 bus route which travels through a large area of the Lakes. It’s a short car journey or bus ride south to the stunning topiary gardens at Levens Hall, and heading north will take you to Windermere and Ambleside within half an hour. The views across the town to the distant fells are fantastic. The only potential downside for some could be that some of the roads and pathways are a little steep as you are basically on a hillside, so it could be challenging for those with mobility issues. We had a nice lunch in town at the Bristly Hog, where the staff are really friendly.
