Peggyslea Farm B&B, hotel in Carlops

Providing mountain views, Peggyslea Farm B&B in Edinburgh features accommodations and a garden. Featuring free private parking, the 4-star bed and breakfast is 13 miles from EICC.

Peggyslea Farm B & B was perfect in every way! Annette and Ailsa were warm, welcoming, genuine, and kind hosts. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and all amenities were generously provided. Of all the places we visited during a month’s travel in the UK and Scotland, breakfasts here were the best: fresh fruit, eggs collected from their chickens that morning, and jams they’d made themselves. / This is a working farm. It was delightful be able to interact with all the animals and fun to watch Ailsa train her team of Clydesdales. / We left our car at the (free) Park and Ride in a nearby village and took the bus into Edinburgh. Annette and Ailsa gave us good advice on other (less touristy) places to go and things to see as well.

Fraser Suites Edinburgh, hotel in Carlops

Just off the Royal Mile and near Edinburgh Castle, the boutique Fraser Suites Edinburgh hotel features a gym and a restaurant. There are superb views across Princes Street Gardens.

The location is great, around the corner from the Royal Mile. The property itself is nicely appointed. The front desk staff was great. Two young ladies in particular went out of their way to call some restaurants in Portree since reservations were recommened for a tour we were taking, They also recommended a local restaurant in Newhaven were we did have delicious seafood. There is an elevator/lift at this property. The room was really comfortable and had closets plus a small kitchenette which we did use to make tea. Great view of town from our room. Free use of the clothes washer and dryer was convenient adn we did make use of them. I would definitley recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Old Town.

Grassmarket Hotel, hotel in Carlops

Boasting stylish rooms with plasma-screen TVs and wall-sized magnetic maps, this refurbished hotel is 2625 feet from Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station and 984 feet from the Royal Mile.

Location was great. Victoria Street is cute and there are a lot of restaurants/pubs nearby as well as several cute shops. Not too far from Waverley Station. The building seems to be historic (there was marker with a 17th century year on the side) but the inside is renovated and modern. I liked that there was a mini-fridge in the room.

    We ate at the hotel.

We ate at the hotel. The building is old which is a limiting factor despite the efforts of the staff. The highlight of our stay was a visit to Rosslyn Chapel but other than that there were none. Carlops is a very small hamlet with a population of about 80 people only. If you are travelling in East Lothian try and avoid B roads as they are pitted by potholes.

Easier to get to from Newcastle via A69/A74/A702 than using A1. Only 30 minutes from Edinburgh so easy to visit family and vice-versa. Ate at hotel both nights as food great and restaurant very accommodating.
