The Griffin Inn, hotel in Fletching

Located in the picturesque village of Fletching, this country pub has a large garden overlooking the Ouse valley.

We enjoyed the room, and the staff were very kind and upgraded us. Bath was amazing. The first room that I saw that was 'deluxe' upstairs was very small, whereas downstairs was significantly larger. Lovely comfortable bed, no noise. But the upstairs room wouldn't have been worth the price tag. There was no coffee machine in the room which was a shame. We also stayed for dinner, but this was very poor considering the ambition of the chef with the price. Most meals are £20+, and tasted like £10 and were small. Really disappointing - similar issues occurred at breakfast. The staff were all lovely but there just seemed to be an air of trying to be something more than they are rather than focusing on the basics and being a great local countryside pub. The garden is lush - id definitely come back in the summer to enjoy that, and a great looking venue for large outdoor functions, though I suspect if catered they would struggle and pricing would be over inflated given our experience of the restaurant. The manager did take off 20%, which the waitress should have been able to do, which we were grateful for.

Overly priced - underwhelming. staff at dinner not very attentive. Staff at check in who showed room were not overly helpful when I told them I hadn’t got the room I had paid for. Finally after some shrugging and discussion “they can have this room” we were moved. Not really much difference so not worthy any extra money. Sat with our empty dinner plates for at least 45 minutes after we had finished. We’re not asked about dessert. Didn’t sIt any longer and left the table with our drinks to take up to our room. Not a great way to spend my birthday. We spent the next night up in runnymed at a hotel with swimming pool for less money. Think this hotel is way overpriced. Sorry

We were looking for a quiet village setting with a bubbly atmosphere which had excellent food, a great selection of complimentary wines and other drinks. The efficient and well trained staff were sufficiently attentive without being overbearing. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon, a delicious meal and a relaxing and tasty breakfast the following morning on the terrace. The Griffin produced exactly as we expected.

Pretty setting - lovely large gardens - excellent food - helpful staff - standard double but very tiny Plumbing in bathroom required a certain knack, which was never explained before problems occurred. We used The Griffin for one night, which was ideal. Additional nights in our standard double would not have been satisfactory, as it was so small.

Warm welcome in the candle lit bar and our room was in a separate building at the rear . Very warm and comfortable. Lovely soft linen and pretty decor. Bar was busy with lots of people eating and drinking. Food arrived promptly and delicious. The following morning , we were served an excellent cooked breakfast in the dining room .

Breakfast was mostly good, a broad range of options, but I feel to see why a small serving of yoghurt/granola should be instead of a cooked breakfast. Ordinary (very) sliced bread for toast does not reflect the hotel's food ambitions. Dinner menu is excellent, wine list very extensive with a good range of wines by the glass.

The griffin inn is one of our favorite places in the world. The food is amazing, the staff are always helpful, and the location is wonderful. There are gorgeous views of the Sussex Downs, and it as well located to many local sites. A perfect place for a delightful vacation.
