The three nights we stayed in a comfortable and well equipped’pod’ were amazing. Looking out over the Iona Abbey was the icing on the cake, sheltered at the foot of Iona’s highest hill. The north circular walk was amazing. Joining the pilgrims for a welcome service at the Abbey was really enjoyable and friendly. The island has so much history and culture to absorb. Peace touching earth. White sandy bays were stunning. Wide variety of affordable eating places and a well stocked Spar shop. Pizzas were heavenly! It did help to have wall to wall sunshine throughout our stay 🌞🙏🏻👍 The islanders are so welcoming.

Iona is like no place else on Earth.

Iona is like no place else on Earth. Although steeped in religious history, you don't have to be a devout believer in anything to know that this is a special place. It gets you as soon as you step off the ferry - peace, calm, tranquility, call it what you like. You can't describe it, just feel it and it has to be experienced. Almost otherworldly, the island itself welcomes you and seems glad to see you. Try a candlelit evening service in the Abbey - everyone welcome, believer or not - and you are participating in a thousand years of ongoing history. Awe-inspiring.

Iona is a small Island packed with so much history and the most fantastic views! If you like to hike but aren't in the greatest shape (like me) then Iona is the place for you! We hiked 3 to 4 hours all over Iona and saw so many amazing views, gorgeous beaches, wonderful trails to hike, and very friendly sheep to keep us company! The sun didn't set until well past 11pm (2100 hours) so we had plenty of time after dinner to see the sites and explore almost every coast of the island. The west side of the island had cliffs, beaches, and hiking trails that could have kept us busy for a few days if we had been able to stay longer. I definately recommend Iona as a 2 day destination for those who love fresh air and the glory of nature.

The Island is small & you can easily complete the sights in a one day visit. A short walk to the highest point for a panoramic view. lovely sandy bay beaches. The Abbey was the highlight for me. I enjoyed attending one of the daily services & walking round the Abbey & visiting the gift shop opposite, which had a lot of very interesting books. I learnt about Celtic Christianity. I would recommend a visit to the Island if you are exploring the area.
