Lugger Hotel ‘A Bespoke Hotel’, hotel in Portloe

Lugger Hotel ‘A Bespoke Hotel’ is a unique 17th-century inn, beautiful escape right on the water’s edge, in the fishing village of Portloe on the Roseland Peninsula.

The staff was very kind and upgraded us to a gorgeous room with windows on three sides overlooking the little bay where the fishing boats launch. They left a welcome note and some fruit in our room and even some treats for our dog. We loved our room and slept very well and thought the breakfast options and service were delicious.

The level of personal and attentive service was exemplary. I have worked in many 5 star hotels and stayed in countless more but rarely have we experienced such excellent and warm service! The food was another example of the detail to attention and quality of produce used to prepare the dishes. Amazing all around.

Fine for the walker, short or long- haul hiker, wild flower enthusiast and taking in dramatic coastal views. Boat hire might be possible as we saw families go out on both days of our stay but don't know from whom or cost. Fine for four legged companions as well on cliff top walks. However be prepared for a village with one other watering hole - The Ship Inn. Excellent pub grub at reasonable prices which we visited twice. The Lugger our hotel for two days needs to hike it's act. There are some very interesting places outside Portloe but need four wheels.

This is a delightful village by the coast.

This is a delightful village by the coast. It has a charming hotel, The Lugger, and an excellent old pub, The Ship Inn. Narrow roads wind down to the coast and it can be accessed via a local bus. There is a wonderful bus stop, with a covered seating area, on the hillside to the east of Portloe. The nearest shop is in Veryan and it appears to sell everything that one could want on holiday!

Lovely, cute, quiet fishing town away from the main tourist locations but close enough to get to them. Lovely walks on the south west coast path from the village. The Ship Inn pub is not the best but the Lugger hotel is incredible.

We loved the coastal walks at Portloe and enjoyed visiting Heligan, Eden Project and the Minack Theatre. We ate in the Coastal towns we were visiting each day. We found the roads narrow and had to be very careful when driving to our destinations.

Portloe is a wonderful historic fishing village.

Portloe is a wonderful historic fishing village. There are wonderful walks along the South West Costal path leading from each side of town. A bus to Truro or St Maws runs regularly, daily from opposite the church. The Ship Inn Hotel has excellent meals and very friendly atmosphere.

The room was excellent although a little small.

The room was excellent although a little small. The only evening meal we had was very average mainly due to the lamb shank which was pretty awful in that there was no real flavour and cooked unimaginatively. No crab available but breakfasts superb.

Having visited several times before and stayed in the hotel we decided to try Beach Cottage (also owned by the hotel), such an amazing little cottage, fabulous views to the harbour and right on the beach! Hotel is literally a 20 yard walk across road so all facilities a stones throw away. Clean, tidy, perfectly equipped and that little bit more special having your own place even though we would happily stay in the hotel again as well! The views from the roll top bathtub are to die for! Amazing!

Lovely hotel with fabulous staff, nothing was too much trouble. We had breakfast and dinner there both nights we stayed which was delicious and had a fine dining type twist in the evenings! Gorgeous views from the restaurant overlooking the cove & could watch the fishermen go out when eating our breakfast! Super comfy big bed & lovely shower - would definitely visit again!

Amazing location, literally overlooking the tiny harbour and slipway at Portloe. Fab open fire with a couple of comfy sofas to chill out on a winter's night plus the benefit of a smart tv. A well equipped kitchen was also much appreciated.
