De Vere Tortworth Court, hotel in Wotton-under-Edge

This historic Gothic mansion sits in tranquil parkland on the Cotswold Edge, beside the Severn Valley and close to Bristol. It offers fine dining, a leisure club, and spacious, traditional rooms.

We stopped here for a night on our 3-week trip to England. We were driving, so the large parking lot was a relief to see upon our arrival. The building and grounds were beautiful. We had a drink in the gorgeous courtyard bar and then a very good dinner in the dining room. Our room was clean and comfortable. We really wanted to walk around the grounds, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t conducive to walking out to the gardens.

Such a welcoming, clean and beautiful home with welcome treats. Every extra was completely unexpected. The garden is a little sun trap and so private.the cottage itself was comfortable and had everything you'd ever need. I don't know what pillows they had (please msg me and tell me) but they were like sleeping on clouds. I literally cannot recommend enough...I loved it and wish I could still be there.will definitely return x

Our stay at Tortworth court was very disappointing which is why my score is so low. I had a confirmation from you for an upgrade to our room when we arrived this was not the case. Our Bathroom door did not shut. The room was not sound proofed as advertised on your website as we could hear people next door. THe handle to one of the drawers cam off in my hand. The windows were dirty. No mini fridge.

This hotel is spectacular as you drive up to the main building and also when you enter the reception area. It was well worth the money we paid for our room. There was a lot of space and we had a sofa and chair to one end and then a large bed and wardrobe. The bathroom was lovely. The only issue we noted, and mentioned to the hotel, was that there were several items on the floor that had not been cleaned up from the previous person. There was a chip under a chair, a half eaten packet of biscuits under the bed (the two packet type that was provided, which could easily be seen when getting into bed) and the cap from a bottle under the other side of the bed. We liked the fact that several people had brought their dogs. The grounds are wonderful. All in all we loved it.

a pleasant town with a variety of independent shops.

a pleasant town with a variety of independent shops. Some may find the steep roads a little difficult. The surrounding area has a mix of open countryside and trees. Several small independent pubs. Two fuel stations which offer good value too.

    Some parts very quaint.

Some parts very quaint. Interesting Almhouses - we saw all three sets. Traffic always a problem in these small places with limited parking around the inner roads. Walk - it's much easier. Interesting converted Church into an auction house and the strangest modernist 'shell' bath amongst some of the architectural auction pieces. Look and you will find...

The hotel is an extended country house with lots of character and quirkiness. There was lots of guests but the hotel practices & processes, along with staff knowing their roles meant all seemed to run smoothly with minimal waiting times. Our room was quite a walk from the main amenities but there are several car parks dotted around so we could be nearer when we needed to move luggage etc. The pool was big enough for a decent swim, with limited occupancy so it wouldn't be overcrowded. There was a formal restaurant and a less formal bar style eating area with similarly priced food & drink options. The room was spacious with a large comfortable bed and the bathroom had a bath as well as a shower.
