Amagasaki is a great 'real' town so close to Osaka, but with its own character. We saw a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. Working class, business people, skateboarders, old people playing ukelele in the park. There is a nice old shopping street which is not to be missed. Some good old 'Showa' era coffee shops. We didn't get to do half the things we planned. Will be back!

Amagasaki is a superb base for visiting Kansai: it is much quieter than Osaka, Kyoto or even Kobe; it is also much cheaper; and it has superb public transport connections. It is an industrial city, so there are no substantial tourist sites within it, but it has fine shops and good restaurants, and the people are consistently very friendly and helpful.
