In room onsen, our family loved the traditional tatami style bedroom, it was very cosy. Onsen at the back was small but enough for our family of four. Location was very convenient, 5 minutes walk to floral street.

Fully enjoyed our stay at Takeya. Cozy, quiet and warm place, away from the hustle and crowds at Yufuin station. Easy walking along small neighbourhood roads to the station. Owner Mr Cha is friendly and helpful, he offered free pick up and drop off services to and from Yufuin station. Room comes with own private onsen tub for a good relaxing soak. Dinner on both days (Day 1 Shabu Shabu, Day 2 Barbeque) were excellent and delicious. The Japanese breakfasts served were hearty and delicious. Will certainly recommend this hotel to those who wish to have a cozy homely stay in Yufuin.

The food for every dinner and breakfast is an absolute masterpiece of culinary art and design! Chef Tashi Gyamtso, I think it is fair to say, is one of Asia’s most brilliant chefs in the farm-to table movement. Dinner will last for hours but you will never be bored. Each course is thoughtfully presented with amazing attention to detail and perfect service from kind and attentive staff. The focus is on healthy local vegetables and fruits from their own farm and the region, and Oita’s best local fresh fish and seafoods.
The property is an outstanding example of contemporary architecture and design set in nature with every detail that you could imagine perfectly coordinated.

Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.
A very lovely town.
But too many tourists during the weekend.
Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way.
The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation.
The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street.
I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place.
Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place. The main shopping street Yunotubo is cosy and easy to stroll. There are many good cafes along the way. We enjoyed very much cafe Pepper and Anahata. Watch out for unusual snow that blocked the highway from Hakata to Yufuin. Otherwise it is easy to get to.

The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible!
The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible! I like Japanese food and the food we had there is definitely the best ever. The traditional Japanese breakfast was great too.
Location is good too.
We plan to come back next year with more family members!
The room is spacious and there was a heated blanket plus bean bags to relax while sipping tea.
The private onsen is a plus feature with indoor and outdoor pool except that it is located outside the lobby building. In cold season, it can be pretty unpleasant to walk out in the cold. Instead the public onsen is in the same building as the rooms and lobby.
A good place to stay as it is located within walking distance to the kinrin lake and floral village.
Excellent host! Has an onsen inside too, free! Far from the main shopping area, but they offer pickup at 6pm from the main Yufuin Station (which I didn't know, I walked so far, but it's ok, exercised!)
Also offers breakfast for $5!
Other than that, everything is great! Host has been hosting for 18 years now with his wife! So you also have a native host!
When you leave, they sing you a country song, how unique!!
Breakfast and dinner were very elaborate and delicious- some of the best we had in Japan! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable with thoughtful touches, like a video on how to use onsen. It was nice to be able to reserve private onsen for our family, especially since I have a tattoo and cannot use public ones. The onsen were beautiful, well maintained, and always available.
This is a small hotel, only 3 rooms, with private onsens. The room is Japanese style but with western beds, spacious and the onsen was absolutely amazing. Please note that the hotel is located in a narrow road and you need a small car to access it. Also they don't offer any meals so get your food before getting there.
A lovely ryokan to stay on the edge of Yufuin. It was quiet with easy parking and a safe neighbourhood. We enjoyed the onsen very much and would not hesitate to stay here again. The meals were beautifully prepared and the dining room was lovely. There were bikes available for hire.
Very close to Yufuin train and bus stations. Located above their cafe. Nice onsen with both hot and cold water onsen and a sauna, but need to alternate timing with men and women. Very new, clean and spacious. Toilet is separated near the entrance.
The open air bath in our room was nice. We also had a small balcony to enjoy the quiet and peaceful surroundings. Apart from the private Onsen in the room, they also have onsen facilities for guests.
The food was sumptuous and a very good spread.
Gorgeous accommodation - the onsens are absolutely beautiful, both the private and public. Rooms are huge. The common areas of the hotel are very well appointed and the gardens are lovely. Staff were incredibly helpful, kind and discreet.
The house is very large, clean and new. Modern style decoration. Very very close to the Yufuin station (1 min walk). There are 2 toilets, 1 bathroom, suitable for a group/family travelers. The private onsen is super.
Family room has 2 bedrooms /1 mini kitchen room / 1 living room and 1 private onsen room. The owner is very polite. Everything in the family room are all new Tv , Furniture and etc. The best place to relax in Yufuin.
Excellent location with few minutes walking to Kinrin Lake and 15mins to Yufuin Station. You can also enjoy indoor or outdoor private onsen for free but you might have to wait for a while when they are occupied.
The food is really amazing!!! The room is clean with complete amenities. The location is also very convenient to great places around Yufuin. The private onsens were much easier to reserve than we thought.
The ryokan is very well maintained, with really nice big tatami-room and private onsen overlooking the mountain. The staff is also very courteous and helpful. Great value in Yufuin.
Very good food, staff are very friendly and helpful. There are only nine bedrooms in the hotel, so it is quiet. Every room has its own private onsen, with high privacy.
The room is spacious. Breakfast is good. The hotel owner is super friendly. The hotel is nice with toilet on each room and shared bathroom and onsen but very private.
