The meals were especially delicious. The people who worked there were very helpful in planning activities. The view from our room and the balcony was gorgeous. We loved being offered tea and cookies upon our arrival.

Truly the staff is the highlight of this beautiful property. The restaurant service, the housekeeping, everyone is lovely and top notch. I love the room, this is the 5th or more time I've stayed here over the years and it keeps its quality, the rooms are beautiful, the views are absolutely incredible and again, the staff is the best!

Haputale is a small, sleepy Sri Lankan town - as opposed to a tourist town - in a beautiful hill country setting. It is much quieter and much cheaper to stay in than the tourist hot-spots of Nuwara Eliya or Ella, with a range of locally-run guesthouses, rooms and restaurants. The sleepy train station connects it with Colombo, Kandy and Ella, buses pass through and tuk-tuks can take you to nearby waterfalls or the iconic Lipton's Seat from which the stroll down through tea fields is stunning. There are several Olives restaurants in Haputale - Viewpoint was our favourite both for food and a stunning view. If you want a party then avoid Haputale as you'd be bored.

The trip to Lipton's seat takes about 5 hours round trip but is amazing...much better experience than the tour book suggested. An absolute delight was the opportunity to have tea and excellent snacks while in c the clouds at the peak...for an amazingly low price.
Views from our balcony were spectacular and the food - both dinner and breakfast - was top notch

Haputale is no substitute for Ella it's an extra stop.
Haputale is no substitute for Ella it's an extra stop. Haputale has fabulous views right in town and from your lodge, but there is a draught of travellers hang out cafés, while in Ella, you got to hike for the views, the town is packed with cafés and restaurants that makes you want to stay longer. Lodges in Haputale doesn't seem to put people together for shared transport to Horton plains anymore. Almost nobody is going there. I got a very good deal on transport there, but bailed in the gate and went back, due to extortionate entrance fees that added up to $49 for 1 person! - for a 3h hike!!!! - Lipton seat is well worth it though. Go early in the day before the clouds are covering it. The ride up takes you through beautiful tea plantations as well.

It's a lovely and unique area for trekking and hiking. The weather is wonderful, it's a place where the weather changes 6 times a day. Beautiful.
Bambarakanda Falls, Diyaluma Falls, Upper Diyaluma, Haputale Mountain, Lipton's Seat, and Horton Plains are nearby places. Adhisham's Bungalow is another unique experience to see the wildlife in night.

Easy access to famous Adisham bungalow and numerous walking trails. Good base for excursions to Horton Plains, Lipton's Seat, and impressive waterfalls. Haputale station is on scenic railway line through Hill Country. Best to stay in a guesthouse in the surrounding countryside rather than in town centre.
The service was one of the best we’ve ever experienced. Everyone was extremely attentive and took the utmost care of us.
The food is another big topic: it was exceptionally good, so I would highly recommend having lunch and dinner, even when it’s not included in the fare.
Lastly, the location and the view were simply stunning. From the hotel itself you can explore the tea plantations without any other tourists (unlike in other tourist hotspots). Moreover, some of the hotel employees may join you on hike and show you some nice trails.
Things I liked:
- Incredible view
- Great wifi
- Incredible interior
- Incredible food (and affordable)
- amazing staff
As a foreign traveler this stay was incredible. The wifi was strong enough for me to hold a couple video calls and the food was chicken kottu was delicious. Chathura was extremely helpful with giving advice for activities to do nearby and he even got me a box of tea as a gift before leaving.
This seems to be a newer hotel in the area and I expect in years to come it will become a very popular stay
I booked my stay only a couple of days before, and totally lucked out. The hotel is glorious with panoramic views (the view from the bath was to die for!). A true sanctuary in the mountains, but also with great access to explore the surrounding area if you like. Mike and Ru were brilliant hosts, truly went above and beyond with special effort to connect with all of their guests. Some of the best food I've had the pleasure of eating ever (special shout to Ru's coconut cake!).
✍️👍Such a nice place to stay in Haputale. The terraces with a view is absolutely stunning, the room is very clean and comfortable and the host wife is the best cook ! Best rice and with chicken curry 🍛 we had in the whole trip. The whole family is really welcoming and nice. They improvised a cooking class so i could learn how to make these delicious curries at home. Breakfast is also very good. Don't miss this place.
This place like our home.
We had great time hear..
1. Hotel is Located in the Town area itself. walking distance to Haputale Station and Bus stand.
2. The staff was very helpful, friendly, flexible & supportive.
3. Food was really Tasty and prices and reasonable. Value for Money.
4. The place is very clean and tidy.
5. Had a 5 star feeling when entering into the room. Washroom was very clean and tidy.
6. Mount view of the room balcony was awesome.
Overall exceptional service & Quality of stay.
Breakfast was amazing, loads of choice. Hashan helped us with lots of local walks, tours and information. We also had the curry and rice buffet in the evening which was delicious and there were lots of dishes to choose from, all hashans mothers recipes! We extended our stay by 2 nights as there was so much to do in the area and the hotel was well located and comfortable.
Very bad customer service with online booking. Actually we had a booked the three family room on that day and got confirmation email from you. When we came to Haputale Rest they told us. No more room available. We tried called you but nobody response the call.. really disappointed with our all family. We need to complain about this insident to your management.
Very quiet, clean, fantastic owners with good english, helpful. They pick from the train station. Very good homemade food. The owner has a tuktuk, and for very reasonable prices offers siteseeing, visiting tea factory, tea plantations and neighbourhood. If someone is looking for quiet, non touristic area, very romantic and green, best place to go.
This was one of the best stays during our time in Sri Lanka. The guesthouse is a little outside of Haputale in the middle of tea fields. The views are breathtaking. The host and his family are wonderful people, very kind and helpful. The room has everything you need. Be sure to take the cooking class and learn how to make several different currys!
Breathtaking views. Very hospitable staff. Great value for money. From what we’ve seen in Haputale, this guesthouse has the best location - very quiet, away from the traffic noise yet within easy walk (~15 minutes) to the main road. Good starting point for the Lipton Seat and the Devil’s Staircase near Ohiya.
Welcoming family. WiFi works well. Hot water and warm blankets are so comfortable against with cold weather in Haputale. Very delicious food which were provide on time that we requested. They arranged a scooter for us to go Lipton’s seat. Owner and his wife are so helpful. Very good place to stay.
The hosts are very nice and friendly. Feel like a home away from home. Food is delicious and the location is one of the best I v ever been. Viww from the front rooms are heavenly. Rooms and washrooms were very clean. Can recommend this place to anyone.
Our hosts were really lovely. The food was so good that we ate at the hotel for three nights. You will not go hungry! The views from the balcony were incredible and I suspect some of the best in Haputale. They also had an exceptionally sweet dog.
Place was so good and i recommend 100%. Friendly staff and the place is just mind blowing. Rooms are so clean and staff treated us so well. Food was also so good and delicious . Hope to visit again without any hesitation.
Very beautiful, clean and quiet place. All rooms are located front of Haputhale amazing view like a view point. Friendly staff and birthday surprise was amazing. Highly recommended place.
We had a fantastic view, the food was excellent. A very nice swimming pool area with that lovely view. A remarkable place. Friendly staff. We fully recommend the hotel.
