The hotel is affordable. It's great that they have a restaurant which is open all day from breakfast till dinner. The restaurant staff was helpful, they also warmed a bottle of milk for our daughter before bedtime.
Of course we came to visit Calakmul, which is still >1 hour away, but there's just not many options to stay somewhere closer.

Wonderful place in the "jungle". We stayed here for two nights to arrange the Calakmul visit and we are very happy with our decision. Everything was nice: a big bed, kitchenette, cleanliness in the bungalow, jungle surroundings. Thanks to the host.

We loved our stay at Cabañas Aldea! The smaller cabin was already taken during the dates we wanted to book so we ended up booking the larger two bedroom cabin and we loved it! We felt so cozy and comfortable there. It was so quiet and a perfect place to rest after our days exploring Calakmul and the surrounding ruins. I highly recommend it as a place to stay when visiting this region!

We had such a great stay at Ecohabitat in Xpujil! Our favourite stop yet on our Mexican road trip. Breakfast was awesome and is included! We got the choice of quesadilla or eggs and everything comes with fruit and toast and coffee or tea. Always served on time and delicious. Room was very clean and tidy and staff were friendly and helpful. Big shoutout to Jorge who was our lovely receptionist, maintenance man, cleaner, and server. He was kind enough to unlock our room at 9:30pm after I accidentally locked us out. Hotel is along a major trucking route, but the hotel makes this very clear and it wasn’t a surprise. Pretty much everywhere along this route has been affected by the Tren Maya construction. Noise was covered up by A/C which was awesome. Private parking is a great bonus. Such a cute place and great access to Calakmul. We also loved the covered patio and spent evening out there listening to the crickets.

The cabin was spacious, practical, and fun. The water pressure was good in the shower, coffee pot worked well, and the bed was comfy. The trail through the jungle is awesome- I saw three spider monkeys and lots of birds and lizards. Really beautiful and well done. It seems like this place is expanding and being made with care.

The staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast in the morning is in a comfotlrtable palapa in an intimate setting, and was excellent. There is an undiscovered Mayan mound from the Becan Archaeological Site in the garden just south of the palapa.
It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.
It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.
But you need to be up for a "half horse" town.
To get to a basic restaurant we walked through the middle of roadworks.
Most roads giving access to the hotel were closed for road works and of course there are no diversions..you just work it out!
But the archaeology is fabulous though to get to Calakmul was a 3 hour drive each way .

Beautiful site right off the road.
Beautiful site right off the road. Walk to the Mirador Maya Hotel. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and as of September, 2023, you can climb everything. There's no pyramid, but the main structure is very tall and impressive. Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are pretty intense.

Xpujil itself is not worth visiting.
Xpujil itself is not worth visiting. It is a good town to stay if you are travelling trough the area (for example when visiting Calakmul) and need a place to sleep. There is a small supermarket and a nice pizza restaurant. Be aware that there are only two banks and their ATM's at the time of our visit both of them did not have any money in them for two days.

Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul...
Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul municipality (which is large). Although this little town is not particularly oriented towards tourism, it is the best location to stay connected & have all services within easy reach so you can move between main sites and attractions around the Calakmul area.
Near Xpujil you will find from four to six striking archaeological sites and all of them are worth the visit. Of course, the most impressive one is Calakmul but there is plenty to do beyond that outstanding stop. For instance, you can ask a cab to take you to "Ejido 20 de Noviembre" and visit plenty of craft workshops (wood carving, embroidery by hand and by machine among others). I really enjoyed my visit to Hilos de Vida, Amanecer de Rio Bec & Artesanos Sabios since they give you a nice explanation on their crafts and sometimes they even offer a class for you to take (they also can get you a guide if you need translation aid).
Whether you are traveling with family, couple or by yourself, I really recommend to book no less than two nights in Casa Ka'an (about 8 to 10 minutes by car near Xpujil), 'cause they have everything you expect and a little bit more in a really cute jungle lodge composed by very independent villas which happen to be surrounded by the most wonderful environment. Needless to say that a chat with the manager (Nicolás) is always enlightening so if you catch him ask for his views on the area.
Last but no least... you will boost your experience in the region if you move around in a 4WD or even better in your own bike.

Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul...
Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul Biosphere. None are really close and you need a vehicle to get to the main part of the park. Xpujil, is little neighborhood town, not too close to ruins or highway. We enjoyed walking around town and looking at birds and the old frame houses.

Our only reason for staying in Xpujil was to visit Calakmul.
Our only reason for staying in Xpujil was to visit Calakmul. But as it turns out, it is not the closest lodging to go to the ruins. Conhuas is nearer and has a few hotels that would have worked better for our itinerary, since we were going west. The town of Xpujil has very little of interest and the meal we had was one of the least successful of our trip. We ate dinner at Sazon Veracruzana, sitting right on the dusty noisy main road (186) that runs through the town. It had the more favorable reviews in LP. Calakmul was a great experience though!
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel Templo Maya. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable, with private bathroom and A. C. and two big beds. It’s only a 5-minutes walk from the center. Our host and her daughter were outstandingly nice; despite the language barrier we could always communicate very well. Her kindness and warmth made our stay even better ; the restaurant is also very nice (shoutout to the amazing guacamole). We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone staying a few nights in Xpujil.
I chose to stay at Casa Maran because it is a great base for visiting several Mayan sites. Even though Xpujil is a very small town, the hotel is surprisingly sophisticated, with smart decor, stylish rooms with very modern bathrooms, and an attached quality restaurant and bar with outdoor terrace. It is immaculately clean. I had a room at the back and it was very quiet so I slept well every night. The staff were friendly and manager Juan speaks good English which is very helpful. I enjoyed my stay very much.
Brand new fully equipped cabana in the jungle. My husband thought we were going to rough it in Xpujil and was pleasantly surprised! Great shower with hot water, everything spotlessly clean. Hosts were great, they hung back but were available if we needed anything. They suggested an exceptional guide who picked us up early and took us to Calakmul and through the jungle to see monkeys, lots of birds, and a tapir even.
It’s something different than the usual hotels. the location was perfect with a free parking spot! There are 2 hammocks on the terrace, the bathroom is super cute and the welcome was amazing. the owner and his family would move mountains for their guests. you could ask them anything and they would do it in an instant. Really recommend this stay!
Great location embedded in the heart of a jungle but easily accessible from Xpujil and the main road. The bungalow is well equipped with everything we needed to prepare for a trip to Calakmul and a rest afterward. The staff was super friendly, and so was the restaurant and the breakfast.
It’s extremely close to the ADO. The Pizzeria in front of the hotel has excellent food, the staff were very friendly and the room, while small, was very comfortable, great AC and a nice hot shower. You can even arrange all of the trips to the ruins and the bat cave! Just outstanding
A perfect base for exploring Maya sites at Xpujil and beyond. Clean, spacious rooms with all necessary facilities. Big plus was the unexpectedly nice breakfast, lunch, dinner area with very friendly staff and value for money food (there aren't that many dining options in Xpujil).
Simple hotel with everything you need (internet, toilet, perfect warm water etc.). I arrived late in the evening and the person at the reception helped me out to organize a last-minute visit to Calakmul ruins. So staff very helpful and friendly.
My third visit to the hotel. Stayed in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Friendly family run hotel. Close to ADO bus terminal. Good reception TV, watched the youtube channel. A fridge was outside, good for keeping water, cheese, chicken and fruit cold.
Would be an excellent location for visiting the ruins of Calakmul. I stayed late at the ruins and then spent the night here so as to not have to drive-in the dark.. Secure parking.. Found a taco stand within walking distance.
best hotel in almost three weeks in yucatan. spotless bungalows, super clean and with all the equipment you can dream of. arturo is also very kind and welcoming. shame we only scheduled one night!
The hotel is having a very good price-value share.
The room was clean and we had everything we needed. Parking spots were available in front of the hotel.
Staff was very friendly.
so peaceful and relaxing. waking up to the sounding the birds. beautiful hiking trail on the property. we hiked to the archaeological ruins!!!! very nice people.
