What we liked best were Americo & Grace, the proprietors who were the most lovely people! But the house itself is just as wonderful, it has a well stocked kitchen and heaters that work and 2 lovely bedrooms each with its own bathroom. Also, you can do laundry in the Wash tub and hang it out on the terrace

Special place with lovely host and staff. Such a charming and cozy house with an excellent home cooked meal and breakfast. Bed and sheets were very comfortable and everything was spotless.
The visit to the rock drawings and Ana’s explanation was worth coming out to Castelo Rodrigo alone. It was really a special experience.
Thank you Ana and team for your hospitality.
100% recommend!

As I already said, Almeida is a 17/18 century fortified place, a candidate to UNESCO's World Heritage, together with other Portuguese places. As a result many facilities, like the Military Museum and the centre of investigation of fortified places, were created as well as addicional touristic support. There are several restaurants out side the wall, which provide generally Portuguese traditonal dishes, specially the bacalhão, cod fish, and sometimes goat and lamb. If you enter in the centre of Portugal coming from Spain, Fuentes de Onõro / Vilar Formoso it's only 10 km away, so don't miss it.

Historical village inside an old fortress. Worth visiting.
Historical village inside an old fortress. Worth visiting. Don't miss the fortress walls and the military museum. There are two good restaurants inside the village walls: "1810" (mainstreet) and "Granitus" (just outside the village main entrance). Small village (circa 1500 people). You can also try the main hotel and "Reverim" for tapas and traditional beer. Very easy to get around, by foot or by car.

Almeida is super place for a visit, especially when combined with The Border Castles Tour, Even if you're not into Portuguese history, you will find lots to interest you. We enjoyed our walk around the star-shaped fortifications and followed it up with a stroll around this small, delightful gem of a town. All low key, friendly and uncommercialized.
Everything. This is truly a home from home. It feels you are visiting your grandmother who was an avid reader. The place is spotless clean, decorated with taste. Comfortable double bed, nice strong hot shower. Great internet to work and in the middle of the prettiest medieval town. Almeida is a must to stay and visit. A few restaurants inside and a better one just outside the wall of the city. Nothing was out of place or needed, but the hosts are nearby and attentive. Definitively recommended. Can't wait to return.
The Casa do Forno is a small house inside the walls of Almeida. Access via car was easy and we were able to park very close to the house. Our pleasant hosts met us upon arrival and showed us around the well-appointed house. The bedroom is upstairs and the kitchen and bath are downstairs. The house is small, but fully met our needs. Everything worked and it was very easy to access all of the historic sites of Almeida on foot. We would stay again.
Very good location outside of Fort walls at the intersection of Roads N 340 and N332. Hotel address hard to find with GPS but easy to find if you know it is located on opposite side of the street of the Galp Gas Station. Okay basic breakfast. Excellent hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner. Our room #201 was quiet with good black out rolling shutter that allow late morning sleeping. Plenty of hotel parking on the site.
Rural location - quiet! Modern apartment with full facilities. Kitchen had everything we needed. WiFi was pretty good. Plenty of room. Pellet stove was a bit tricky to operate, but I figured it out eventually. Great place from which to explore the numerous wonderful Castelo villages. Buy your groceries before getting here, or you'll have to drive to Almeida or Aldea Del Obispo, Spain.
Such a great little apartment right in the centre of Almeida. Kitchen and living on the main floor, bathroom and bedroom including sitting area up one flight and then a beautiful terrace up another two small flights of stairs. We really enjoyed our stay and meeting the owners who were lovely people. The apartment is close to restaurants, coffee, museum and groceries.
apartment is well equipped and spotless. owner lives across the way, so check in was very convenient. plenty of parking. WiFi worked great on the first two floors. rooftop deck is amazing! town of almeida is picturesque, warm, and welcoming. highly recommend a visit to Almeida and a stay at Casa do Ti Messias.
The house is equipped with everything and the owners were extremely kind and helpful. Perfectly located in Almeida, it is on four floors, which for us wasn't a problem, but maybe for a younger family might be a bit inconvenient. We would however recommend it with no hesitation.
The hotel is old fashioned but very practical and good for the price. It has a free parking and it is just 1-2min drive from the fortified town. The breakfast is simple, but enough for a good day start.
Supernice and friendly staff, clean room, comfortable beds etc. Do not expect hotel Sheraton but it is very good quality for the price. We enjoied it and can truly recommend it!
This was a beautifully presented home in the middle of Almeida. Gabriel met us and was very helpful. We were able to park our car close by. We had a lovely overnight stay here.
