We recently spent two days in Custer, SD, and it was fantastic. Custer is a perfect base camp for taking in all the surrounding sites including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Custer St. Park wildlife loop, and the Custer St. Park Sylvan Lake area including Black Elk Peak-Little Devils Tower-Cathedral Spires hikes.

Initially, we had booked stay in various towns, but changed this and made Custer our main stay. This allowed us a central location, whilst we took days out to State Park, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis and other places, and saved us from packing/unpacking for the duration of our trip!

Great central location to Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Mt Rushmore. You can get a decent meal. It is not just burger restaurants. Custer State Park has incredible wildlife especially at dawn and dusk. It is as good as most National Parks. The Custer tourist area is the same as any of the others but the buffalo sculptures set it apart. There is also a farmer's market downtown.

Convenient access to the beautiful, Black Hills of South Dakota! A welcoming town with great shops and good restaurants. Next time w3e come, we want to rent quads to travel around the area, especially Needles Highway and Custer State Park Wilderness Drive!
A charming venue where to stay when visiting Mount Rushmore area. The property has many amenities for guests including sport facilities (basketball playground and two heated pools) a cafe where to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner and complimentary snacks. The staff is friendly and ready to assist customers for any need. It is located in a natural setting just a minute away from Custer main avenue where stores and restaurants are available. Mount Rushmore can be accessed in a 20min drive through a scenic route.
Great location. In the heart of the Black Hills. Very scenic. Outsides are the main attraction. A few minutes away from the western entrance of the Custer State Park. Upstairs beds were comfortable. Living and dining area was comfortable. Lots of eating places in town of Custer, just 3 or so miles away, with grocery store and gas. Close to many things - town of Custer, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, within 20 minutes of Mount Rushmore. Easy to get in/out coming from the East (I-90 E).
Brenda& Don were warm & welcoming.
They were readily available to answer any questions we had.
The rooms were very comfortable& had decorations with the theme of the Rocket motel!
The rooms were spotless&
I loved the big bath towels which were soft!
The hot coffee& tea with half& half was appreciated in the morning.
Everything was perfect!
I would most definitely stay there again& highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Custer!
A fantastic customer service experience, due to flight delays from salt lake city via Denver and an unplanned stopover in Denver, I was a day late to Rapid Reg airport. I informed the manager Curtis who was so helpful, and despite their being a bike rally lpcally, he managed to accommodate me 1 extra day in the beautiful town of Custer - I would highly recommend this venue. The staff were so helpful at every opportunity.
Nice, easy stay in Custer. Quick walk down the main street to all the restaurants and shops. Rooms were clean and perfectly comfortable. Nothing fancy, just a nice Best Western. We found the staff really friendly and helpful. Even though it was very full, it was quiet at night. Enjoyed the dive bar the Captain's Table that's right down from the rooms. Great place for one last nightcap before heading to bed.
Very well located motel near downton Custer with clean and spacious rooms.
Our beds were comfortable and we could park right in front of our room.
Breakfast was very good with free coffee available at all times.
Staff was very friendly and helped immediately to fix the settings on the heating as it got a bit too cold the first night.
Very great value for money for this place.
It was very nice, the receptionist was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty standard for mid-range hotels. Price wise, for those who are staying in the area for a few days, it's probably close to what you would expect to pay. The location is great, just a few miles from Jewel Cave National Monument and about in the middle of the Black Hills.
Very friendly staff at check in. The staff was also extremely helpful in making recommendations for dining, shopping and proximity to attractions. We had an issue with our television and the hotel sent someone over immediately to fix it. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our 3-night stay in Custer and at the Bavarian Inn.
Great location, easy to find and good in value. The bed was very comfortable and room was clean. It is close to the landmark here in south dakota like Rushmore Monument and Custer State Park. There are some food store, restaurant and gas stations nearby. Vending machine is accessible. Pool and spa were opened. I have had an amazing stay here.
If you are looking for a place to appreciate the outdoor beauty of the Custer,SD area, this is the place! We were met with great hospitality, and loved this opportunity to UNPLUG from everything. We had wildlife all around us, and enjoyed the spaciousness of the lodge. We found a new area of the US that everyone should explore and visit.
Location was fantastic! You could walk to most restaurants. It was a short drive to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, and Mt. Rushmore. The room was larger than expected. Bed and sofa were very comfortable. Robes were a plus. Having a closet, instead of a pantry, was very helpful. The outdoor area was lovely.
Easy access to the town of Custer and area activities. Close to the Mickelson Trail. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room included a small kitchenette with microwave, sink, small fridge, and cabinets. We could park right outside our room which made loading and unloading very convenient.
Although an older type motel it had everything we needed. The room was clean and the staff was really helpful. Custer was small quaint place that is well worth a visit and this motel was in keeping. Not modern but working and sufficient for us - good value for money.
Rooms had everything you need. Coffee bar and a pitcher of drinking water was available 24/7. Within walking distance to downtown Custer. Had a cute little sitting area out in the front of the building, to enjoy the weather.
Great place to stay in Custer. The lodge is very comfortable with all annemities you need. Kitchen is well equipped. Living room anf bathroom is spacy. Enjoyed the evening on the front porch. Great palce to stay.
Staff was very kind and helpful. Very good place to stay if you want to visit Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. Beds are good. Parking right in front of the entrance.
