    String town was fun.

String town was fun. The bakery in the country was fantastic. We ate at a local eatery in town. Was not real good. Most things close up really early and we did not get in to town in time to eat dinner anywhere but a pub type place

We started out in Washington,ia for a weekend Country Roads...

We started out in Washington,ia for a weekend Country Roads Marketplace event @ the fairgrounds, & they had maps for other lil shops there,& surrounding lil towns! Then stayed @ Kalona, only 15 min away. We went up town to try lil ice cream walk up shop. It was good & busy! We walked that eve & looked @ the windows of These hometown lil shops, 1 was a chocolate place, & another looked like a country store with variety of things & also had a restaurant in it, would love to try it out! Saw a couple other eating places too. 2 was maybe finer dining, 1 was a Mexican restaurant, & 1 bar & grill. But all were closed, except the restaurants,as it was 6 or 7p. Next time!!😃 Very clean lil town! Looked like it had pretty much all you need, went to grocery store & ate @ deli before we went up town, they had a cold & hot case. Also you could order. So I ordered a tenderloin, it was 👍,they also had a lil greenhouse there. Very friendly! Stayed @ the Dutch Inn, very clean, simple & friendly, & great price. Easy to find on main road of Kalona,& easy parking! Also have a bakery right outside of town, heard it was Good! Also cheese factory store & Amish grocery store called Stringtown,Up the road! We didn't have time to stop, next time!! Had a $store too. We ended up going towards lil town called Wellman, 10 min away, had a hidden gem there! Lil family owned cafe, ate brkft there& it was Good, Great service! They were busy,& those girls Definitely earned their wages, very attentive, kept coffee coming. Down the road found a Awesome Green house, Beautiful plants!! Really reasonable!! Very friendly! Said they been there 40 or 50 yrs. Definitely was a Great weekend trip & Will do it again!!!❤️❤️

The tour was great! Very informative driver John.

The tour was great! Very informative driver John. Shops were friendly as well as well stocked. Ate at the General Store and the Mexican restaurant; tried to eat at the Brewery, but the wait was over an hour. Also had breakfast at JW's. Appreciated the discounts offered by the Chamber of Commerce tour ticket. Would recommend the tour to start at 10:30 versus 11; didn't allow much time for shopping, but the maps helped us to return for that activity. Favorite spots were JK Creative Woods, Willow Creek Fabric & Gifts, the Golden Delight Bakery. We didn't have enough time to visit the other shops. Next time would know that everything is closed on Sundays.

Cute town. Easy to get around. Recommend the Tuscan Moon Grill for dinner. It was very good. Drove down the road to Riverside to see Captain Kirk's Headstone. They also had a great Star trek Museum.

    Kalona is a nice town.

Kalona is a nice town. Close enough to Riverside Resort for that gambling experience without the overpriced motel room. Great dining is available in Kalona. It's the southern gateway to Amana Colonies, so there's more than enough to see and do daily.
