We had an amazing stay at Basecamp! We were passing through town and stayed the night. Arrival was smooth, the suite was clean and had everything we needed. I wanted to make a special shoutout to the property manager. I though I had lost an item in the room and he helped me try to track it down. Then, when my car battery died, he offered to come from the next town over to give me a jump (which I, thankfully, didn't end up needing). Great place and great people!

Lone Pine is a quaint town, catered to outdoorsy people who love hiking, rock climbing, off roading, etc. We loved Alabama Hills and Whitney Portal (although we didn't get all the way to the trailhead due to a rock slide). The Alabama Hills Cafe was amazing, and the Museum of Film History was a must before you go out and hike!

What an amazing surprise to find this small town.
What an amazing surprise to find this small town. The ideal place to stay after visiting the Death Valley and if you are a cinema fan. The Western Film History Museum is a must, and also, if you are looking for a quiet old-day town with quite a picturesque atmosphere surrounded by mountains, this is the place!

I'm traveling on a tight schedule; this was just an overnight stop. The town is small and eclectic, at the foot of Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48. The town draws many hikers and climbers and caters to their needs. For a town of its size, there are an unusual number of dining options. There's a very nice museum housing western movie memorabilia. Nearby are the Alabama Hills, where many movies and TV programs were filmed. Just north of town is Manzanar, a WWII internment camp for Americans of Japanese heritage; the National Park Service has done an admirable job presenting the facility. Death Valley, and the ghost towns of Panamint Valley, are nearby.

We love Lone Pine.
We love Lone Pine. We stay overnight on our trips to Lake Tahoe.
The Eastern Sierras are my favorite mountain range. Have taken many backpack trips in them.
Lone Pine is known for having the road to Mt. Whitney Portal. Has many places to stay when getting ready and finishing the hike. Fits most budgets.
Be sure to check out Alabama Hills. The geological formations are amazing and many westerns were filmed around the Hills.
Our favorite place to stay is the historic Dow hotel. Many actors stayed there while filming their westerns.
Alabama Hills Cafe is our favorite place for breakfast. It's across from the Dow Hotel. Could go on and on but, I'll stop here.

Lone Pine has several nice restaurants within walking distance of the Dow Villa hotel. We ate at the "Mt. Whitney Restaurant", they really do have the best burgers in Lone Pine! The "Alabama Hills bakery" is also within walking distance with wonderful cakes and baked goods. And for coffee make sure you visit the "Lone Star Bistro" great coffee, breakfast and gifts. We tried "The Grill" but we probably won't be back, we didn't enjoy the food very much there.
This is not a luxury hotel and should not be rated as such. It is an old style motel and in that criteria I had no complaints. The key thing was that my room was quiet, the bed was very comfortable and the place felt clean. There were not any real amenities to the property but I was not looking for that. I checked in late and the staff was quite nice. As to be expected, the decor is older and put together by a color blind decorator but that really does not matter in a motel in this class. I would stay there again.
I was in Lone Pine to climb Mount Whitney. As a "base camp", the hotel is well-located as it is close to the road to the trailhead. I could also walk the main street of Lone Pine to find a restaurant. Room amenities were just fine. Comfortable bed. Very clean. Fridge was cold and AC worked. WiFi reception in the room was excellent. A very fast and secure network. Plenty of ice in the ice making machine also!
We stayed in the Quality Inn at South Lake Tahoe. It was OK. The facilities were worn. The breaskfast room was so crowded it was almost impossible to get food. At Quality Inn in Lone Pine, the room was modern, clean, and well stocked. The breakfast room had delicious food and plently of room to move about. We were pleseantly surprised.
Wwe arrived very early and desperately needed rest. The hostess at the desk accomodated us into a room at 8:30 AM even though she was clearly consumed in getting all rooms ready for guests checking or checked out. We really appreciated the flexibility. I am returning to lone pine and this will surely be my hotel because of the kindness
The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Our stat was last minute, dye to changes to our Road trip. The town of Lone Pine was a pleasant surprise. Mount Whitney, which is a shirt drive was fantastic and if you're a movie fan, especially of westerns then this town has been featured in many.
The hotel is wonderfully historic! The local western history is apparent and displayed tastefully. Our room was comfortable. The main building lobby is a great hang out area, relax and visit. Staff were friendly and accommodating! Will stay here again!! Love it!
Within walking distance of pretty much everything in Lone Pine - such a lovely small town! Really comfy bed, great wifi and TV system, good shower and lots of space. Loved the neon sign too.
