If you're going for the LDS historic sites it is excellent to go to Palmyra. Enjoy lunch at Muddy Waters (it was recommended to us and was very good and right on the Erie Canal). The highlights were the EB Grandin Printing Shop - fascinating to see how books were published back in the 1820's. Enjoyed the Joseph Smith boyhood home and property. All of the LDS missionaries are extremely informative, helpful and friendly.
