It would have been difficult to have been treated better and almost impossible to find a more relaxing location with breathtaking views. The hosts were perfect; available on the phone at any time and quick to respond to any messages. The accommodation was ideal for our needs and indeed we have taken away a good few ideas for a property we are renovating (thank you Meli). We stayed for four nights and wish it had been longer; the area is one of truly astounding natural beauty and is the perfect location to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet. The village itself is very pretty and the locals equally welcoming and happy to chat. One can walk from the property to local restaurants which provide wholesome economical food and a warm welcome. We have lived in a very beautiful part of the Mediterranean Coast of Spain for over 20 years in one of the most scenic valleys imaginable, or at least we thought so until we came to sample the delights of this gorgeous village in the Cantabrian mountains with fields of freely roaming livestock all around and the backdrop of awe inspiring mountains with free flowing rivers and streams with pretty cascading falls all within pretty easy walking distance, albeit up and down hill. Parking was super simple in a private spot right beside the property, but not such that your car blocks the view. We visited the coast whilst we were there which is around 40 minutes by car through sensibly wide mountain roads (windy, but easy to drive) and also took a trip to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim (just over an hour), but it was lovely to pop to the local "supermarket" (corner shop) and buy some bits to enjoy a picnic.

Casa Madrazo con piscina y parrillas in Praves biedt accommodatie met uitzicht op de tuin, een seizoensgebonden buitenzwembad, een tuin, een gedeelde lounge, een terras en een barbecue. Een goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding. Zeer vriendelijk ontvangst. Een fijne kamer met een goed bed. Door middel van luiken kon de kamer goed (donker) gemaakt worden. Goed werkende WiFi. Mocht ik nog eens in de buurt zijn dan zal ik hier zeer zeker weer overnachten.

Casa Llayo is gelegen in Aliezo, op 6,6 km van Santo Toribio de Liébana-klooster, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis WiFi en een 24-uursreceptie. This was one of the best holiday rentals I've ever stayed in, hands down. It's a little house in a tiny village up in the Liebana mountains, with a stunning view from the terrace. The house is newly built, so it's clean, warm, and comfortable, but at the same time it's cosy and tastefully furnished and decorated. The 2 bedrooms can easily fit a family of 5. Mattresses are springy, on the firm side. There is a quite spacious bathroom and a separate toilet downstairs. The kitchenette is equipped with everything you'd need and, additionally, you may use the bbq on the terrace. It's hard to describe how nice the hosts are! Alicia and Jesus go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasurable as possible, sharing their tasty home wine and offering advice, but everything in a very discrete and unobtrusive manner. There are many hiking opportunities in the area – some easy trails directly from the house and some longer ones in the close vicinity. A quaint mountain town of Potes is 7 minutes away and the cable car to Picos de Europa is 25 minutes driving. I'll definitely come back!
