Renovated in 2015, IORI Stay is nestled in Takayama. This traditional Japanese-style townhouse was created in collaboration with local artists and boasts designs with both modern and traditional... This place was very comfy in a very traditional stay, it is perfectly located so you can move around very easy. Yuri from the staff was super friendly and helpful, she recommended us a lot of places to visit and where to eat. I fully recommend this ryokan

The checkin with tablet was easy and went very well. The support from the owner was very good : we call late 1st night to understand how to get hot water and received immediately the answer. I definitely recommend and we will come back with pleasure.

Takashi-San, our gracious host, also owns the Cafe next door and an amazing collection of records. We had dinner there and the curry and carbonara he prepared were delicious. Plus he played some beautiful music from the 70’s. The ryokan is fully equipped , well heated and the futon beds were extremely comfortable. Takashi san even gave us water bottles to warm the beds at night. We slept so well. We were only two and could not believe we had this huge beautiful house to ourselves. Takashi-san is an attentive host : he provided juice, snacks , water , coffee , tea etc all free. It is such a quiet and relaxing place off the beaten tracks.

Soramachi was a very comfortable house with good facilities. Probably the most spacious and nicest accomodation we experienced in our travels through Japan. Only stayed 2 nights but it provided a relaxing and quiet break from the crowds elsewhere. The house is right on the river and close to a tranquil temple walk and public bathhouse . It is an easy walk from there to the old quarter and we walked to the house with luggage from the station ( 1.4 km). The owners are obviously very house proud and welcoming. Highly recommend this accomodation.
