Portland is a walkable city.
Portland is a walkable city. Too many wonderful restaurants for one trip! My favorites from this trip: Fore Street Restaurant, Honey Paw, and Jing Yan. My husband loved Bar Futo and the bar at Via Vecchia.

We live in Massachusetts, but we love visiting Maine. We usually stop at the Kittery Trading Post along our drive. In Portland we like to take in historical homes and sites like the Victorian Mansion or the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow home. There are lots of restaurants and pubs in the waterfront area. Best seafood ever.
Best seafood ever. Very nice restaurants and bars and excellent, friendly service in all places. Nice little interior or similar shops. Some more or less interesting galleries, interesting Arts Museum. But two full days are enough for visiting downtown Portland. Lovely hiking trails at about 30 minutes from the town.AlexandraGermany

It is also a short drive to the Old Port and other popular tourist destinations. The rooms and common areas at The Francis are very clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable and the linens are fresh and clean. The Francis is housed in a historic building that has been beautifully restored. The hotel has a lot of character and charm.

The hotel rooms themselves felt a little old, but they were clean and the lobby was really nice. I very much believe that anywhere you stay is going to be similar pricing and you have to pay for valet anywhere on the waterfront, but you might find a more modern hotel for the $400 a night rate if you do a little searching. But really - it was fine for what it is and we were not there to hang out in the hotel anyway.

It was a better value than the local hotels and in a fantastic location close to Old Port and all the wonderful restaurants that are there. We were only in the city for 1 night so it was perfect! The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff were exceptionally nice in a sincere sort of way. The bar was also cute and a nice place to stop in before walking to the room at night. It's an old roadside Ramada a few miles from downtown. I found it to be very comfortable.
