We stayed in Greg’s property for 1 night in Oct., 2024. Greg was a very nice and welcoming host, and the lodge was clean. The breakfast was also great! Some of the facilities (e.g. the fridge in our lodge) isn’t fully working due to cyclone Jasper’s damage. However, it was totally understandable as the entire area hasn’t fully recovered from the damage yet, and Greg did his best to make things as comfortable as possible. The free WiFi in room was working and was in reasonable speed. We highly recommend staying in Greg’s property when visiting Daintree / Diwan area!

We were looking for our first stress-free rainforest experience when we found Wildwood. A wonderfully furnished cabin in the middle of jungle was just what we had in our mind. We did our grocery shopping in Cairns before we arrived in cape Tribulation, as timely advised by our host Sheree. The cabin had all the essentials we needed during our stay. Few cafes and ocean Safari tours office are around the corner (15 min walk). We enjoyed exploring the inhouse fruit orchard (thanks Jason for showing us around) and tasting few of them. We did the ocean Safari reef snorkeling tour. Highly recommended! We also just took time off doing board walks and the jungle walk which starts right behind the cabin is the best of them all. It is not boarded though but gives a nice jungle feeling. The nights were also uniquely amazing, sleeping to the rain and jungle noises. All in all, highly recommended. Will do it again if we happen to be around.

We loved the room and outside cooking area. The Farm had everything you could possibly need and looked exactly like the photos and more. Great facilities to cook in, as well as a pizza oven. Makes for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The complimentary breakfast with farm picked fruit, bread, jam and cereals made for a unique experience. The family were so helpful and kind. Will be returning one day!

Matt, the owner was very kind and helped me many times. Thanks to him, I was able to enjoy Daintree a lot, even though I cannot drive a car. Dawn in the rainforest, surrounded by birdsong and watched from a sofa in a building open to the outside, is a wonderful memory of this trip.

Modern cabin in the middle of the jungle. The view from the terrace was amazing. Very well maintained garden with exotic palmtrees and plants. Loved that it’s very quiet and private there. The host Lilian is very welcoming and gives good tips for local sightseeing places and tours!

Wonderful area with lots of natural attractions.

Wonderful area with lots of natural attractions. Highly recommended for nature lovers, hikers and anyone who wants to get away from it all. Getting away from it all includes not a whole lot of phone reception, so take a printed map. Limited groceries available so if you are self catering best to shop beforehand in Cairns or Mossman.

We love Mossman as a quick stay on our way to the Daintree. The Woolies is great to re stock, we had pies from the lovely organic dough pie shop and were excited to be traveling through on a Saturday as Mossman markets are one of our favorites (and we’ve visited a few!)

Our accommodation in Diwan was in an excellent location for exploring the amazing Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Nothing was further than 25 minutes away by car including Cow Bay, the Daintree Rainforest Discovery Centre, Thornton's Beach, Cape Tribulation, Cooper Creek Croc Cruise and various interesting boardwalks. We were predominantly self-catering, so we can't comment on the quality of most of the cafes and restaurants in the area. We did enjoy morning coffees at the Daintree Fan Palm Farm, which also offers organic pies, organic wholefoods and organic fresh local produce. The one meal we had out was at The Beach House in Cape Tribulation, where we shared a generous serve of fish tacos. Some restaurants can get very busy in the middle of the day when tour groups stop for lunch. Also be aware that they mostly finish their lunch service at 2.00pm.

I loved how it was close to the beach and very quiet and peaceful. With a little driving most attractions were close by or within half hour. Spending time in the Daintree was spectacular and I found most of the visitors were respectful of the tranquillity. Half an hour to Port Douglas for shopping or spending the day driving up to Cape Tribulation, river cruise, all great adventures.

A beautiful, airy, spacious home that was meticulously cleaned. The cottage was set in a gorgeous garden where giant, blue Ulysses butterflies fluttered, where cassowaries visited. The kitchen allowed for easy meal preparation. The hosts were friendly and provided good tourist information. The cottage has a glimpse of the sea, in between 2 smaller cottages that are between the road and the larger cottage we enjoyed. Thornton beach is beautiful, with firm white sand which for great walking (no swimming advised because of crocodiles). A vehicle is strongly recommended in Daintree.

The whole experience from the ferry ride, meandering along windy roads whilst taking in the magnificent tropical views to our destination was fascinating. The 2023 December cyclone caused chaos with the roads eroding & severely damaged, there are traffic management staff all the way with single lanes & traffic lights along cape tribulation road. Well worth a visit to support the local businesses & Heritage Lodge staff were amazing & our evening dinners were 5 star restaurant

Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape...

Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation than Port Douglas, but Port is a very short drive away to be able get to reef cruises and activities there. Mossman is the old town, still with elements of 'country', check out the Exchange Hotel (there is a Woolworths on the edge of town - I wish they'd hide it behind large trees) and a regular market every Saturday (10.00 am - 1.00 pm) in the historic church grounds. It is not overwhelmed by tourism, but the surrounding areas have B&B and accommodation options. Mossman Gorge is an amazing upland rainforest experience. You get one of the mini-busses from the Visitor Info Centre (every 15 mins until 5.30 pm) This takes you to the walking trail. The first part is boardwalk, then an easy bush trail in a circuit. The forest is spectacular, very relaxing to see & hear the water of the Mossman River. Sit on the seating or a rock near the trail and wonder at the profusion of life that fills every space. TIP: Take a towel & wear swimmers, as there is a rock pool about 2/3 of or the way along the bush trail with clear fresh water, safe to wade & cool off in.

Diwan is an excellent area from which to explore Daintree NP. Close to Cow Bay and Thornton Beach, with the towering Thornton Peak looming ever present. Take a drive to Mason's Cafe for lunch and a dip in the waterhole. You cannot swim at the beaches due to crocs, heed the warnings! There are great walks contructed in the forest which are well worth doing.Supplies are basic cf. what you can buy in a large supermarket. Buy your supplies before you cross the river, in Mossman. If you are staying a few days, consider if you will need to cross the river repeatedly as there is a toll and it may be more economical to buy a week pass, depending on what you do. I spent 4 days as a solo traveller, after some reef snorkelling from Pt. Douglas. I spent the time exploring the area north of the river, up to Cape Tribulation. The beaches are breathtaking, even for an Aussie like me. Just the sounds of the forest, the birds, the frogs and insects an d the wind through the trees...divine. I felt so peaceful when I arrived home.
