nice historic museum like hotel with a nice courtyard.

The room was facing outwards, not the courtyard, and therefore could hear the traffic. For a short stay ok. To access the hotel needed to call, thereafter was easy to access.

Breakfast was simple and basic. Some fruit, toast with jam & butter. No other condiments. Some muffins (too sweet... but that is the overall USA problem). Coffee, tea. Cereal & milk. It was nice to sit in the courtyard instead of the breakfast room. Rooms were nice, clean. No carpets :) New showers and well functioning. Large bathroom. Liked the public transport accessibility. Very convenient location.

The drain in my room was a bit stuck but I managed.

The building has definitely a character. The location is good. There are places to eat very close by. The host Robin was super friendly and helpful.

Difficulty reaching someone on site to check in ( 4 phone calls, kept getting recorded message that they were closed). Finally entered where they were having a private function and we were able to check in.

Room was very clean, nice presentation. Comfortable bed. Beautiful patio space outside. Great location, walked to transpo terminal and took the free shuttle to airport.

Hearing the transients in the “park” across from the hotel.

Secured entry. The room was a nice size with no TV, microwave, or mini-fridge which is great! Water pressure in shower was good.

A Taste of History with Service Hiccups at Cosmopolitan Hotel
    • Leisure trip

Despite the historic charm and fantastic location, my stay was marred by a series of service shortcomings. The most noticeable was the evident imbalance in the focus between the hotel's guest services and the operations of its two restaurants. The restaurants were well-staffed and bustling, but this level of attention didn't extend to the hotel services. Communication within the staff could also use improvement. For example, a crib that we had requested and had confirmation for wasn't present in our room on arrival. Additionally, a later request for additional towels and milk was only half-fulfilled, despite assurances. It was disappointing to find the hotel unmanned during the day, which led to an impersonal service experience and a feeling of being neglected. Furthermore, the lack of a fridge in the room posed a minor inconvenience during our stay. Given the price, I expected more seamless service and attention to guests' needs. The Cosmopolitan Hotel could truly live up to its 1870s grandeur if it can reconcile these service shortcomings.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel in San Diego is a unique establishment that offers an authentic trip back in time. The historic building, dating back to 1869, is nestled in Old Town San Diego and is decorated with Victorian-style and antique furnishings, providing a stay experience that is truly unique. The hotel's location is excellent, being close to the San Diego Trolley, San Diego Zoo, and Sea World, and offers stunning views of the historic Old Town State Park from the rooms' balconies. I also appreciated the helpfulness of the Hotel Manager, Dee, who went out of his way to help us procure milk for our child on the first night.

The arrangements are unusual but easy to work with--staff not always on site but accessible. It's like going back in time! You should expect a room and experience that is more similar to the historic experience that matches this historic site. Within that frame, I was surprised at the excellent condition of the antiques and fixtures. Very comfortable.

This is a quirky old hotel originally built in the 1870s. It is adjacent to Old Town State Park and was the perfect location for us. Parking was convenient and readily available, which allowed us to take the Trolley to all our desired destinations. The hotel is still struggling to fully open from the pandemic and it will be much better when the courtyard restaurant and bar is open.

You had to call and wait for someone to let you in the premises. I waited 30 minutes for someone to open a gate that let you into the establishment.

It was like stepping back in time. The rooms are decorated as they may have looked in the mid 1800s. They were modern amenities, of course. Location was really nice, old Town San Diego.

Our check-in was complicated because Dee (the manager) had tried to contact us in advance but we didn't have internet connection whilst we were travelling. We resolved this easily with the help of the restaurant manager from the hotel's sister company. (which was also a great place to eat!)

We loved the quirkyness of the historic building, the location was excellent and the staff were great.

The cast iron tub was cute, but very cold to actually take a bath in. And the plastic shower enclosure around the tub was a little weird to get used to. Would prefer a standard shower. Oh, and the toilet leaked around the base. Forgot to mention that to the host (Dee?).

Breakfast was 'okay' not anything to write home about. But they didn't imply anything other than what we got. It isn't a B&B, nor is it an Embassy Suites. Just good clean, continental breakfast. Room was drafty, as it was unusually cold for San Diego. I understand they're trying to keep the ambiance similar to period correct, but you could put some insulation around the doors and windows and we wouldn't complain.

no coffee/tea in room. The breakfast was disappointing , we had to clear a table to sit and very little food left for us at 9:15 am. the coffee was cold already as was the hot water for tea. The manager Dee was great upon arrival. but the house keeping was grumpy and rude.

the location was perfect and the room was unique. nice and quiet.
