The fact that the walls were very thin, which to be expected since it is an older building. Advertisement of full service of restaurant and bar. Neither are open in the hotel. The later check out of 12 is amazing , and someone at the desk all night.

Angel at the front desk was super helpful at check in, and told us about the possibility of being haunted. Very personable and friendly.

Over the years we have stayed at the Mendocino Inn, we've seen a marked decline in upkeep of the property and facilities. The restaurant and bar are no longer operating; outside areas and inside the rooms require maintenance; the fireplace in our bedroom is not usable. Considering the lack of effort to maintain a good quality product, the price charged is definitely too high.

We love Mendocino and we like the old-fashioned style of the hotel. Walking around town and around the headlands is heavenly!

The beds were very uncomfortable and the shower is difficult to work. The restaurant was closed for renovation but they provided coffee in the lobby.

Excellent location within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Staff is helpful and accommodating. We had a huge room decorated with genuine antiques. It was clean though a little shabby. Bathroom and furniture could use updating. The real star is the rugged coastline which is right across the road and easy to walk to a spectacular trail.

The rooms are not well-maintained and are very small. The walls are thin and we can hear the guest next room. The hotel has changed owners over the years and has been left without upkeep. The restaurant is permanently closed and there's nothing else to offer.

The hotel is an old Victorian style house with interesting furnishings and pieces of decoration. It's also very close to the ocean and it has a nice view. The guests can just walk to the balcony all around the rooms to appreciate the view and catch a nice sunset.

It would have been good if it was busier, and some investment in sprucing it up a bit.

A beautiful old hotel which was full of character. All the fittings e.g. the plumbing worked just fine despite their vintage feel. The morning coffee provided in the reception area was good. The location was spectacular. Unfortunately the Restaurant had been closed for some time.

I can’t say I DISLIKED anything. There were just a few small things that could simply be because it is an old building. Nothing that made me uncomfortable. 1) There was no thermostat. Heat was supplied by a space heater. Not a disaster when weather is relatively mild, but I wonder how it is when it is cold. I would not like to run the space heater all night. 2) there was only a single plug that served both the coffee pot and the heater. so I could have my coffee or be warm, but not both at the same time. 3) the drapes were nice enough, but the linings were in bad shape. Again nothing that affected my comfort. Just gave the room a bit of a shabby feel.

Historic, attractive, nice gardens, great location. Beautiful lobby restoration. Room was small but nice, and the bed was comfortable. Fun old-timey photos on the walls. Good shower. The people extra nice.

Cute old hotel for a brief stay
    • Leisure trip

Quite a few guests had trouble getting into the bathrooms & evidently hadn't been told during check-in that they need to use the room key to unlock the bathroom door. And people inside the bathrooms didn't know to turn the latch so that "OCCUPIED" shows on the outside of the bathroom door. Winter 2022-2023 provided lots of rain (no more drought), but the hotel website needs to be updated. Fireplace in the ground floor sitting room/lounge is out of order-- too bad, since that's really inviting on a chilly evening. The restaurant is no longer functioning, sadly, since 2020 or so.

This is a 19th century hotel, so most rooms have a sink-- but the bathrooms (with toilet, shower/bath) are down the hall. Most of the rooms are fairly small-- with a wardrobe (armoire) & Victorian style furnishings. Don't expect a modern, spacious motel with mini-fridge. (There is coffee in the lobby.) It's quaint, which means it's a more reasonable price than most of the fancier hotels/ B&Bs in Mendocino. This was our 2nd time there. Bed was pretty comfy. Be aware: the rooms are up a steep flight of stairs (no elevator). Hotel has a cool old fashioned sitting room/lounge on the ground floor with board games and good seats for looking out the windows onto Main St & the headlands.

Cute historic hotel in a pricey wedding town

It's a very old building, meaning old world style with very small rooms/beds, very thin walls, and shared rest rooms for some. I didn't hate that part so much, but the price tag was a bit high. The town is a wedding hub though, so prices were high everywhere you looked.

The historical aspects of the building really made some of the other "unusual" accommodations worth it. It's very cute! The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and beyond. The view on the shared patio and the location of the hotel makes up for the price point. The shared bathrooms were nicer than I thought they'd be.

It’s a historic site so there’s wear and tear but overall the property is clean. It was disappointing to see the fireplace was not used and they closed down the restaurant side of the building.

The property is close to everything since it’s near the Mendocino Central Business District. Also it’s near Mendocino Headlands and Van Damme Beach and about a 10 minute drive to Fort Bragg. Check out Tall Guy brewery if you’re in Fort Bragg. Quite phenomenal beers.

The beds seemed to match the age and authenticity of the hotel. They were old spring mattresses and not very comfortable. Also, there is no central air so it became uncomfortably warm at night and a bit stuffy.

The location is prime as Mendocino is a tiny town and the Hotel is on Main Street in a town where that actually means something. The hotel is beautiful and authentic. It's roughly 145 years old.
