Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe room is tiny.
Stayed for one night in San Francisco downtown. We walked down a few streets and were shocked by the number of homeless people on the ground. Luckily right around the hotel there wasn't many.

AustraliaThe location was ok. We wanted to stay in Nob Hill but the hotel was 2 blocks away from an area we were advised to avoid. Not too many restaurants close to the hotel.
The hotel was lovely. Very comfortable and decorated well. The room was small but we were expecting that. Very helpful and friendly staff.

GermanyThe hotel is located in a relatively "unsafe area", as we saw a lot homeless people and drug addicts one or two blocks down the street, but not in the direct vicinity of the hotel. Walking there at night feels not quite safe, but as a group of friends, it was fine for us. During the day hours, the zone seems fine.
The Hotel is great, located in a nice, old and historic building in the heart of San Francisco. The building and rooms are overall good, renovated and offering all the necessary facilities. A good value for the paid money.

United KingdomRooms at the back of the building are incredibly quiet but on this visit our room was quite central, which meant it was a lot noisier.
Simple but nice fitness room included in the hotel which was free to use. Staff were nice, beds were incredibly comfy.

United StatesThe lack of soap in the bathroom was an issue. The shower gel in the shower was almost empty and hard to dispense. Our toilet had a bit of trouble flushing (had to be flushed twice), and the parking situation and fee to park was not properly explained in the booking of our reservation.
Loved the design and art in the building. The old fashioned elevator was fun and gave character to the building. The modern style and outdoor seating spots were enjoyable. Location of the hotel was perfect distance to the SF bridge, Fisherman’s wharf, and other piers for attractions. The closeness to a lovely breakfast place up the street was perfect.

AustraliaVery thin walls. Got woken up every day by housekeeping doing their rounds and vacuuming, people walking up and down the hallway and neighbours being noisy. The fan in the room also would not stay on overnight and we constantly woke up very hot even with the windows open.
Staff were lovely, room was quite spacious and very clean and comfortable with a lovely updated bathroom. The restaurant downstairs was a little pricey but absolutely delicious.

United StatesHotel borders Tenderloin, a pretty sketchy area of the city. Don’t recommend approaching from the south. Keep uphill of the hotel and you’re fine. We had no security problems and staff is always at the front desk. No ability to cast from device to TV, no streaming service sign ins available either. Room was only cleaned upon request and I didn’t realize that’s what was meant by “room service.” Walls are very thin and normal conversation can be clearly heard room to room.
Clean and stylish, fridge in room, bed was comfortable. Bathroom was nice and robes are provided.

United StatesRoom was small but I feel that for the price it was to be expected. The elevator broke down but it was repaired within 18 hours.
Great location on a hill leading out of the tenderloin, escaping the street people. Great value and I was impressed by the cleanliness and the flexibility of the staff.

United StatesOnly complaint is the walls are paper thin and our neighbors had the TV on all night (seriously, all night). This is just a little weird not really a complaint, when we arrived there were no comforters or extra sheets on the beds, only the sheets covering the mattresses. They did give us comforters when I asked but they made me carry them upstairs to my room and they didn’t seem sure they had more comforters…just a bit strange
All in all, for a spot in the middle of the city I thought it was pretty good - great area, clean, there’s street parking nearby (if you can read the signs). A great crash spot and I would come back and stay again.
