Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesFirst off, Loved our stay. For a bit of feedback: They seemed understaffed. Their beach area and pool area were not tended too so there were chairs, trash, and towels about. The beach showers and feet washing stations didn’t work. We received turndown service on last day before checkout which didn’t help much as we checked out the next morning. The spa services are super expensive but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The pools aren’t heated and someone had posted a picture of an indoor pool on Google images of the resort which they do not have. We were sad about that. Rooms were small but bathrooms were large.
We loved the location, the restaurant on site was the best meal we had this trip. The quick walk to the beach and the hot tub was wonderful. The GM Chase was super helpful and committed. Our kids loved the Easter egg hunt, bocce ball, hot tub. We would definitely stay again!

United StatesThe hotel is certainly not cheap. It is probably the nicest hotel in the obx but none the less there at musty areas
The grounds are lovely. The area of the beach is very nice. The bathrooms are okay but more did not have a bathtub and I was hopeful at this price point there would be more luxury.

United StatesOver priced room. We had a problem with our air conditioner going off twice so waking up to hot room was not good, but they did send someone to fix it immediately. The Screen door had holes all over it so bugs got it when you open the doors to listen to the ocean 🌊 Also the walls were so dirty, for the price you pay this should really be cleaned up. I will tell you the staff is very nice and the location is amazing for the beach or going into town.
The location was perfect!!!

While professional and friendly I think the staff could improve in its speed and delivery of services. Bartenders and waiters/waitresses could benefit from hospitality training.

United StatesI have been coming to the sanderling for a long time, it was my families yearly vacation spot growing up. This place is not the same and it breaks my heart. This place used to be elegant. It seems like the have taken away the little things that made it so special like bringing breakfast to the room every morning with freshly baked pastries, coffee and juice. They got rid of the amazing smelling spa soaps that came with the room. In General it seems like they have taken a very corporate route by cutting costs all around and it’s very noticeable, the aspects that made it a resort are unfortunately disappearing.

United StatesI believe I had requested handicap facilities in the shower and there wasn't any. The shower was beautiful and very large but not equipped for handicap. My husband has Parkinson's and needed to have handicap facilities.
We didn't have any breakfast, at least not at the Sanderling; however, we did have dinner at the "Life Saving Station" that is next to the Sanderling, and it was delicious! The room we had was very nice, very roomy, nice large bed and also a side porch with chairs that we could go out on and get some fresh air.

United StatesOutdated carpets. Not everything was top notch clean (e.g. dirty window frames to our balcony). Spa (indoor pool and steam shower) was not perfect (steam room was smelly like mold and dirty, indoor pool felt dirtier than it should for such a hotel). The waiting staff in the restaurant (lifesaving station) was not very friendly: brought the wrong food, did not care about food allergies, and were disappointed when we didnt want to order alcohol - I would expect more for the price you are paying to eat there.
The resort is nice, although a bit dated. The rooms are generally clean, the bathrooms very nice. But the carpets are older and don't look appealing anymore. We got a good deal because we travelled out of season and that was worth it. I would be disappointed though if I paid the full price in the summertime, that would not be worth it. Overall staff was nice, location was excellent and our stay pleasant.

United StatesThe room was FULL of mosquitoes, we found a dirty bathing suit in one of the drawers and the balcony was absolutely covered in cobwebs. I’d like to point out we had one of their nice rooms and paid $1100/night for it. Was not worth the price at all.
The location was great. Beautiful beach and lovely views from the room. The food at the Lifesaving Station was delicious with good service.

United StatesResort felt/looks on outside a tad tired; carpeting in our room spotted. Lunch option being limited to bar/poolside station was too crowded and we opted to not wait for something there. For $550-650 a night inclusive of taxes and resort fee, we were expecting a bit more.
Breakfasts were excellent at LifeStation, and 2 dinners at Kimballs Kitchen were as well (Kathy our server at KK was terrific). Staff all around very nice and accommodating. Loved beach umbrella, chair setups for relaxing on beach.
