We loved being in the center of Bird Rock. We parked our car and explored by foot during our entire stay.

Fantastic location at the end of a lovely commercial strip. The entire place appears to have been recently renovated. It was a great value and exactly what we were hoping for.

Location is perfect, quiet neighborhood but still lots of restaurants and coffee places around. Nearby the pacific ocean as well. Staff was really nice and the room with balcony was clean, comfortable and it felt safe!

I didn’t like that the pillows were really uncomfortable, I’m not a huge fan of feather pillows so if that’s not your thing bring your own pillow. That was the only thing that I didn’t like, other than that my fiancé and I had a wonderful stay and would come back again! :)

I loved the location of the hotel, we were a really close walk to see the ocean and beautiful views. I loved how close we were to a cvs. Everything was super clean, updated and new in the hotel and hotel room. I loved eating dinner on our balcony every night, the balcony was really nice! The fridge in the room actually made our things cold, most hotel fridges don’t work so well so that was a bonus. The room was perfect, it had a lot of space for storage. The staff was super nice and the check in and check out process was super easy.

Perfect room for 2 people. Nice setup with refrigerator. Wish the bathroom was bigger but shower was big. Patio was nice with just views of the street. Pool looked good but didn't try it. No view of the ocean but you are 1-2 blocks to the ocean. Nice restaurants in Bird Rock and La Jolla. I am so glad we chose this area. We were 30 minutes away from most attractions.

Within a short walk, there were beautiful views of the Pacific, coffee and breakfast businesses, a bakery ( never went in because there was always a line due to popularity) and a very good taco restaurant ( where I did enjoy). The rooms were quiet. There is a nice size pool.

A great place to stay! Rooms were very clean and the staff soon arrival and departure were very friendly! Only thing I will say is night time staff were a little cranky.. room comes with a fridge and there is a microwave outside the lobby which is good

The bird rock location is fantastic! Easy to walk to the ocean, many cute coffee shops and bistros for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Close to downtown La Jolla and Pacific Beach. My room had a stand up desk which was great for some conference calls. Staff were super friendly! Everything was very clean. Parking was included and easy. The room had a fridge too! Would stay again!

Our original room (205) smelled like cigarette smoke. However, they gave us another much nicer room without hesitation.

Parking is tricky. Spaces just off the street and narrow if you have a big vehicle - this is just something to think about if you have more than a standard car or pickup. Access coming into motel is from a traffic circle right on the corner, and it's tricky to enter if you don't recognize the motel immediately.

No breakfast...just coffee and tea available. Staff was very nice. Parking was tricky because of the size of our vehicle - we had a 12 person van - but we got parked each time. We were in town for a wedding with a big group traveling with us, and we had just a few minutes ride to the wedding venue.

The bed was kind of low just a mattress on wood blocks but was comfortable. It would have been nice to have a couple of chairs in the room. There was only a desk chair and office desk. Chairs for the patio. The room was nicely updated. Kinda weird there is a hole in the countertop in the bathroom for garbage but right in the middle near the sink so leaves not that much counter room for doing your makeup etc. Keep losing stuff in the garbage. But overall a good place and nice staff. We brought are bikes and were able to lock them up near the pool.

The location is the best thing about the Sands! It’s in the heart of Bird Rock, within walking distance to shops and restaurants and the Pacific Ocean.

The room was very spacious, it was clean, and it has a balcony with furniture! I only stayed one night but it was great. We got there and the woman in the front was super nice and helpful. We also got in the pool, which is actually deep (in my opinion)! The area itself was also nice, and in the morning the man at the front desk was just as kind and helpful as the woman. (People mentioned parking being a problem but that wasn’t my case there was still spaces available when we got back to our room around 10pm) Definitely plan to come back!
