There was a dead bug in our bathroom, the bathroom could have done with a clean. The pillows for the bed had marks on them. I had ordered chocolate strawberries for my girlfriends special birthday but the surprise was ruined as the chocolate was hard due to the time it was left and the raspberries very soft.

I loved the staff they were very polite and the leisure facilities.

Didn’t like the background kitchen noise in the room. This was rectified by a change of room.

We had booked for B&B and the breakfast was excellent. The quality of complimentary refreshments in our bedroom were of a high standard. We had stayed there in January and our evening meal was delicious as was the Afternoon Tea! They have wonderful treats for dogs too! Staff so friendly and welcoming.

Room was a little too small Sockets weren't good for setting up ironing board or drying hair to see in a mirror.. Bathroom could be maintained better paint and grout..

For some reason we were put in Room 107 an interconnecting room, although the doors were tightly shut between the rooms, we could hear every word the neighbours in 106 were saying. It was disturbing hearing the lady being sick after one too many drinks during the night. We had a very unsettled night eventually waking up to the noise of their yappy dog shortly before 6am. I spoke to reception and they promptly moved us to room 112. The room was perfect until the neighbours the other side's dogs started barking and howling every time someone passed their door. My husband and I had went to go swimming at the back of 4pm, the girl was very unhelpful, asking if we could return in an hour or so as their was too many people in the pool. Myself and a different couple said their was only 4 guests in the pool, but was told to go back later. I then asked if I could use the hot tub outside, which she agreed. I asked for a towel and she walked away telling me they were "their" Their was only hand towels displayed, so I asked again and she said they were short of towels due to people taking them. She eventually gave me one out of the cupboard behind the spa reception.

The house is absolutely beautiful. Lovely entrance, plenty of parking. The lady who checked us in was very informative, telling us exactly where everything was, what time breakfast was and offering further advice/help at any time. Breakfast was lovely as was lunch. Most of the staff couldn't do enough for us, including Ian the manager, he took time to welcome us and have a chat. Very nice touch. The outdoor hot tub was a bonus, especially on a beautiful night. I would definitely return to this hotel only on condition I wasn't put in interconnecting rooms or with dogs beside us..

First impressions are important, so , as we walked in the doors there was a mouldy smell in the stair and the foyer, not over powering but there just as you walk in the door, I immediately thought this place has been looked after, how wrong I was, the place is an very old country house and gives the impression of being authentic, which it is, so the smell did not deter from my experience, probably made it all the more authentic. I would say for the brief time of checking in I didn’t know what to expect, i was pleasantry surprised.

The old fashioned Scottishness stood out, old photos, paintings, swords and decorations, i just loved all that, absolutely fab. We also had had pre-meal drink at the bar in front of a open log fire, with Scottish music quietly playing as a back ground, absolutely divine, if you are visiting Scotland and want so Scottish flavour, it doesn’t get much better. We stayed for a dinner and glad we did, it was really good food in which i would recommend every visitor do, we had the rib eye steak and it’s been a while since i had a steak cooked so well, well done guys. The staff were also very friendly, helpful and homely and you can tell they have had the correct training in etiquette. We also visited the spa, again this was a very good experience.

stayed Friday night and Saturday night, the music at the function within the hotel was quite loud in our room, and went on till very late. luckily I always have earplugs to hand.

could hear lots of noise coming from the surrounding rooms (snoring, chatter, flushing of toilets). would have preferred if there was another lock on inside of the door, could be opened from hallway and was only one key.

Bedroom: Cracked ceiling, bashed radiator in room, thermostat on bathroom radiator held together with insulating tape. Poor Wi-Fi signal in room - dropped out from time to time. Would have been nice to have a box of toilet tissues in the room, and also a glass (even a plastic disposable one) in the bathroom.

All staff were very informative and attentive.

stairs leading up to reception could do with a hoover. waiting staff require better training, dirty dishes were left on our table during breakfast and they did not know how to communicate but that may be language issues
