Great location - great pub - good food - good breakfast - overall excellent value for what I paid.

Staff member on second day for breakfast - very grumpy and extremely rude even though there was just myself and 2 other people sitting for breakfast. No fruit juice or water and when asked was moaning and a very unpleasant woman. Dread to think if more people than 3 were sat for breakfast. Not sure what the issue was with her. Her attitude has resulted in my poor score for the hotel. Single rooms are small - I mean very small- bed has no head board and again very narrow so so uncomfortable. The hotel wasn't full - maybe a free upgrade to a decent room would help the reviews. If you stay in a single room be prepared for a rough time. That said what to expect for what I paid and breakfast included.

Great pub and food - great location to stay for Sca Fell Pike - bar staff pleasant and friendly, lady for first morning breakfast very pleasant, different lady for breakfast second morning was extremely rude and unpleasant. Breakfast was excellent -cost for single room great value. recommend this hotel but not the single rooms.

The hallways and landing are very creaky (as you'd expect with an old building) - however this does mean that when taking our dog out for a wee this would disrupt other rooms with dogs and set them all off barking. Our dog did struggle to settle because of the noise from other rooms. I guess this is something you expect when staying in an old building with a dog, however it is good to know if you have a reactive dog. Ringo has stayed in hotels before and been fine - as he hasn't been able to hear noise from other rooms. For this reason we probably wouldn't stay again with our dog, although it was perfect for our last minute stop off in the area.

Pet friendly hotel, made us feel very welcome with our labrador when we checked in last minute due to bad weather conditions (had planned to be camping). The staff were friendly and the breakfast was amazing - amazing quality and value for money. Lovely location.

Toilet flash was fiddling, need press down many times and hold it down to get proper pressure water comes out. Definitely something needs to look at. Noise in the morning as guests walking along the narrow corridor. Luckily it’s not many rooms so the noise only happens from time to time, not frequently. Bedside light is too bright and the position is on the wall on top of your head, can’t change much direction, that means when it’s on the person who slept next to you would also get too much light and can’t sleep. But if you only need a little light for the room, not for reading books then you can turn the bathroom light on and leave the door slightly open, you would get just enough soft light for comfortable room atmosphere.

Food was lovely and big potion. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. We got there late and hungry, they kept the kitchen open to make us a beautiful dinner. Also in the morning they made my food with my request due to my sickness. Thanks for their patience and great service. This hotel location to steam train and Muncaster Castle is only few minutes drive way, you can walk there too. We had very nice experience staying there.

Food specified on menus & specials board were not all available , either sold out of or didn’t have it available..produce clearly not available & unusual given was a busy bank holiday/half term week. Bedroom although clean & had a great sleep the room was on a slope ..bathroom door didn’t fully close.

Very comfortable beds/pillows, friendly staff, good location & nice relaxed atmosphere

As guests I feel we need to be made the priority to the hotel / pub environment. We had booked a table for evening meal , we were told by a lovely gentleman ( long hair tied back ) who remained attentive to our every need throughout our stay with the pub / restaurant and at morning breakfast who has been fantastic and welcoming throughout . We were told we could sit any any table until ours is ready in the restaurant but maybe asked to move if someone comes in and needs the table , which was fine . A lady working in the pub / restaurant approaches the table we were sat at and rudely asked us to move and move now as the tables required so we asked if our table was available and she commented I don’t know and walked off , she then shouted across the room yours is round in the bar to the right . Whilst ordering another drink the same bar man stepped in saying i’ ll kindly show you , which was all that it needed. Unfortunately we weee placed in the bar area to eat our evening meal . After booking a table prior to our stay , which was disheartening as the restaurant is very pretty and no one else was eating in the bar that night accept us . We were then rushed from our table following our meal and then found that there’s actually more where for the guests to sit and enjoy the evening as the pub is filled with guests from outside the pub . Leaving us having to go and sit in our room which makes it then a boring night to what was a fantastic wkend . What started off as a lovely welcome was ruined by the rush to move us for someone else . We feel that guests should atleast be prioritised and allowed to remain seated in the bar atleast .

Very homely and relaxing feel to the place , quiet relaxed area , great parking . Loved the restaurant , reception and rooms very comfortable and clean .

Rom in a wing and the door to the bar/pub gets locked. Felt a little out of it in the West Wing?

    The room was very warm.

The breakfast was really good. Quality sausages and bacon. I had the cumbrian breakfast off the cooked menu. There was fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, milk, apple & orange juice. The breakfast was a great portion size with toast also. 10pm checkin was useful so I could have a full day out before arriving.

The maintenance of the property could be improved eg our bedroom window ironmongery was falling off and the window required other repairs and redecoration however as the window was only single gazed perhaps now is the time they should be replaced with double glazed windows.

Evening : meals were good quality and hearty with a good menu selection and a good range of beers and wine al at reasonable prices. Breakfast was excellent we had the Cumbrian breakfast which was of very good quality and was cooked to order .
