The weather! Ahh Yorkshire

Small family run Pub with rooms in a separate building at rear of pub. Room was clean and comfortable. Pub was cosy with open fires and a couple of ales on tap as well other beers. Great to come "home " to at the end of the day . Good location for exploring the Yorkshire country side. The serve dinner nightly and our tariff included breakfast. Best poached eggs I have had in a long time. Staff very friendly and welcoming

The food here is excellent. I have always had an excellent meal. Its always well prepared and plenty on the plate. The choice and quality of the ales is also excellent. This is my go to hotel in the area now. All the staff have been very friendly. Had to take my dog away on business and this is a perfect place. Very dog friendly.

Only small points - I woke during the night and could hear slight sounds from the adjacent room. Also at breakfast, the tea was already prepared (minus the milk) in a flask. This was fine, but as I take my tea weak I would have liked a jug of hot water available to water the tea down. I'm sure I could have asked for some hot water but we were in a rush to attend a meeting, so I didn't bother.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, starting with a phone call the day before our stay to introduce the inn and ask if we would like to book an evening meal, which we did. The room was great, across the courtyard. The bed was comfortable and the toiletries were lovely. There was plenty of hot water in the shower. It was nice to get biscuits and decaf tea and coffee options too. Evening meal was tasty and there were several options that appealed to us. Breakfast was equally tasty and cooked to order. Overall we got the feeling that nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they really wanted all their guests to have a good stay.

We only stayed one night on our way to Scotland but glad we chose this pub. The staff and owners were really friendly and our 2 little dogs were well accommodated and enjoyed lots of fuss! Evening meal and breakfast was really good. Our room was clean and comfortable and overall we enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend.

When we arrive the staff were helpful but not overly friendly but when we checked out we didn't see anybody just left the key on the bar, which I think spoilt it a little.

The pub was lovely country pub, in the heart of a small village. When we were taken to our room it was lovely, decorated well. We had dinner in the evening which was very nice and the breakfast in the morning was brilliant, full English or you could pock and chose.

Once again ( other hoteliers please note) we had requested a twin room with 2 single beds and once again that's not what we were allocated. This is not specific to this hotel as this has happened 4 times at various hotels. I had emailed the property to confirm this and had a response but communication was difficult with the property. No response to more recent emails and no one answered the phone and no one returned my call. Thankfully some other guests agreed to move and we got our single bedded twin room. Our room had an en suite with a very clunky door fastening ( esp in the night!) and a shower curtain and a rail that really needed fixing. We had booked the evening meal and as other diners were directed to the specials board. However we were disappointed as were others that they had sold out and really no deserts available either. We had to prompt the staff to even offer a desert. I think the staff mixed a trick as 8 people didn't have the desert we wanted ( the crumble so nothing difficult) and no one offered us coffee or liqueur coffee ( which could have made for a good profit). There are some staff changes on the cards but there are definitely some staffing issues and staff training which need to be addressed. Honest feedback but don't let this put you off. According to the visitors book lots of people were very happy with their stay.

The Castle Arms was in a good position for us. Despite some issues ( see below) it was perfectly adequate for our one night stay. The food ( eve meal and breakfast) was good and bedrooms well appointed.

Could do with putting some gravel or type one aggregate in their car park as it was a muddy grass paddock.

I had to leave early before breakfast served, but they let me in early to have muesli and toast and even offered to cook me a hot meal, although I had no time to take this up.

The floor above us was very squeaky so we were up as early as the guests upstairs were.

Very comfortable stay. Bed was amazing. Breakfast was plentiful and evening meals tasty. A peaceful location which was very handy for interesting sights. Staff were very friendly.
