Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandIt would be nice if they offered the option to have dinner dinner at the ryokan as well.
Great attention to detail which helped enhance our stay. For example, you can choose to get essential oils diffused in your room when they make up your bed in the evening. Staff was very attentive to our needs. Breakfast was delicious (we went for the Japanese style). Our room was also the traditional Japanese ryokan style but it felt very modern and good quality. Public onsen was nice and relaxing.

ItalyThe room is a bit old and the blinds are not enough to cover the light in the morning. They don’t serve dinner.
Very close to the train station, nice breakfast with different choices, we were able to try some traditional Japaneses clothes

United StatesI would have appreciated some more knowledge of the staff of restaurant recommendations or out of the way places to eat that might not just be focused on beef. Might have liked the option for beer or sake in their "lobby" or lounge area, but it was comfortable.
Our room was traditional with futons on the floor which was very nice to experience. The whole ryokan experience here was wonderful though it was not in the "official" historic Takayama location. The room had a main tatami area, but also a couch if floor sitting was not comfortable Very close to the train station, yet on a quiet side street, and walkable to the historic Takayama area, the morning markets, the festival floats museum, etc. Two types of breakfasts are available, Japanese and Western--I had the Japanese which was wonderful. Very attentive staff (though not too much English). The location near the train station allowed us to stash our bags at the ryokan before going out to explore Takayama and access to the bus station (next to train station) also made it easy as we were leaving by bus. There are many eating options in Takayama, but it is a bit difficult if one does not eat beef. The staff was not really able to point us to good options for dinner but we managed to find the next door restaurant was casual and met our needs, as well as another inexpensive sushi restaurant nearby (and not in the "historic" area) that was very enjoyable..

Australiathis is one of the best hotels that i ever stayed, if you are hesitant book it! The room is great, the tatami bed offers great confort. The hotel provides absolutely everything that you need including slippers, kimonos for formal and in the hotel, entertainment with origami and japanese writing, books and games. The level of confort is amazing, they prepare your bed to sleep including an oil lamp with a sense of your preference! The public onsen is absolutely wonderful, dont hesitate to go, after a long day of walking is just the best thing you can do. The breakfast also great and the staff is the most friendly crew! Wouldnt hesitate to go back!

SpainNothing in particular. I didn't try the breakfast but on the pictures they didn't seem so inviting. Maybe a bit expensive but it worth the experience inside.
Well transformed building into a Ryokan experience. Just getting to the entrace gives you that feeling. The room was fantastic, really big with extra sofa space. The welcome and the experience transforming the room from day to night is really good. The private onsen was good for private relax (extra price) but also the public onsen was really good (included in the price), I went just when it opens at 6:00 and only one person was there.

PolandNothing, everything was fantastic. I wish we could stay at least 1 more day.
It's really hard to express how superb this stay was. And it was only 1 day. I imagine this is thanks to type of the place, not being typical hotel, but rather traditional ryokan with it's quality. From the beginning, the staff was excellent. Helpful, informative, easy to talk to. The room, comparing to our other hotels, was huge. Sleeping on futon was our best sleeping experience during whole stay in Japan. We have booked private bath, and again - everything well prepared, all important things available in the room. We were provided also with yukatas to be used in ryokan, but in addition we could also use more colorful that could be used outside. Hotel is 5 minutes walk from main station and on the way to old town of Takayama. The last but not least - breakfast was the best we had in Japan. We have chosen Japanese one and we could try many elements.

IsraelWe liked everything!
The ultimate choice for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience! We had a room with Tatami mats and futon beds, a private bathroom and we got to wear Yukatas in and out of the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with whatever we needed and breakfast was also great (Both the Japanese and European one). The Train and Bus stations were just 2 minutes walking distance. Thanks for everything!

The atmosphere was fantastic, with many people wearing kimonos and just enjoying themselves. A lovely ryokan in a great location, easy to access everything in Takayama and close to the train station. Highly recommend and we, especially my wife, would stay here again.
