Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ArgentinaThe futon was really thin, which may be difficult for westerners. I stacked a few on top of another to pad. Not much else to note.
Although we mostly communicated through Google translate, everyone was extremely friendly and hospitable. They even drove me to the bus station to help me with a big bag in the snow. Dinners were delicious, a plus since there isn't much open after about 5 o 6pm. The room was large, clean and had plenty of extra space for bags. It's a cool experience to stay in a typical ryokan in a little village.

United KingdomNo amenities/ towels provided, had to buy a tiny towel for ¥100 (it's not much but it's the only place I have ever stayed at that didn't provide a towel) The changing room for the sento doesn't have a door and it's fully visible from the corridor where everyone can pass through, didn't bother me but it might bother some people
Nice room Plenty of parking Affordable They gave me a free pen as a parting gift

United StatesMinshuku Rindo was fine, but pretty expensive for what it was. It was a bit hard to find, coming from the bus stop at Chusha shrine... not a short walk (I'm glad we left our bigger rolling suitcases in the coin lockers at Nagano station!) The building was rather old and a bit shabby. The food was sufficient, but not delicious. Bath towels and yukata cost extra. Almost none of the shops or restaurants in town were open (I guess winter is the main tourist season?), so I wish we'd taken a minute to pick up some groceries/snacks while in Nagano.
There's not much with an English-speaking web presence in Togakushi, so options are limited. Minshuku Rindo got the job done of giving us a place to rest our heads while hiking around the 5 shrines. The room had a little entry area to put our bags, which was actually really nice (the other 2 ryokans visited in other places in Japan didn't have that). The food was sufficient. The area was really lovely and worth the visit!

JapanBreakfast could be more filling. It’s the most important (and biggest) meal for us. But dinner was great.
The place. It’s very near the middle shrine of Togakushi. I love the peace and quiet.

SingaporeThe shower is shared showering. The changing area is right by the door. So if someone enters the changing area and u are changing, i feel like passerby could see too much of you.
This is a no frills property. The owner will give u an introduction really quickly. The room is really big tho. The property is about 8min walk from the chuusha bus stop, there is a mini slope along the way too. I ordered breakfast and dinner with my stay since togakushi restaurants generally close really early. I think the food is basic, its certainly not a spread. With the price paid, i think its ok

United StatesThe location was a few minutes walk to Togakushi-Jinja, and 6 minutes from Togakushi Shrine Okusha (Main Shrine) The Great Torii Gate. Friendly staff with newly renovated property. The owner gave me an amazing recommendation to eat at the Nagano Forest Village.

AustraliaMaybe I'm spoiled from my previous experience and travels around Japan, but there wasn't that sense of hospitality and care. Much more the feeling of a Hostel, where the staff are indifferent to you being a guest there. There were ants in my room, they did not supply nor have a towel to rent (only a small wash cloth), and the introduction was simply "Here is your room, here is the bathroom, wash room, here's the futons, set yours up yourself, welcome." I would have appreciated being taken through how the dining room and food options worked so I could decide if I wanted to order dinner/breakfast or not.
The rooms and the place overall is huge. The dining room as well is massive.

Australiathe room was infested with bugs that let off a smell when squashed. I caught at least 30 of them but they just kept appearing. The shared bathroom was dirty and hadn’t been cleaned. Our room was near the designated smoking room. every time we went out to use the toilet or basin we had to cope with the stench of the smoking area. There was an old man staying in the room next to us who I think was part of the family running the facility. He had his TV blaring until at least 3am, and was often smoking throughout the night. The bedroom pillows were very uncomfortable. There were no towels or toiletries supplied.
The location was good, as we could walk to the Ninja Mura with the kids in the morning.
