Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaModerne hostel is great but you really have to upgrade the beds. They all feel like planks! They are hard. At times, I just book to use the shower and end up sleeping in my car because the beds are so uncomfortable….
Hostel location is great.

United States of AmericaBED WAS TERRIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE. i It’s been heavily used and should have been replaced years ago. I spoke with many people at the hostel and all of their beds have the same issue. Hard as a rock to sleep on.

United States of AmericaThe bed is as hard as a rock. The guy sleeping next to me brought a blow up mattress to put on top of the existing one. I may try that next time.

United States of AmericaBathroom was pitiful. Idk how second floor was, but the first floor (mix of dorms and private rooms) had one bathroom (think like a bathroom in a house). The shower curtain was barely hanging and did nothing to keep the water inside, and the shower head was awful. There was warm water which was appreciated. For how much this hostel costs, I feel like they could pick up a $10 shower curtain at least. Another thing that I didn’t realize was there are no cooking facilities, just a microwave. They advertise a kitchenette so I expected more, and once I looked back at the confirmation email it states no stove/oven, but not on the booking.com overview (which actually states there is cooking facilities on an answer from the property). Minorly, the bed was rock hard with thin pillows, but that’s not really surprising for a hostel.
The location was great, right across from the brewery and close to all the lifts. The cost was decent, and the crowd was respectable when we were there and dispersed around 9.

United States of AmericaThe mattresses and pillows really need to be changed. I have to bring my own sleeping mat and pillow so that I don’t end up with pain in my back and neck the next day, especially if I’m staying multiple days.

United States of AmericaThe beds were HORRIBLE. Pro: I had the all-female dorm so ended up having the room to myself which was great. However, the bed was the worst bed I've ever slept on. Literally could not sleep because of it. If I stay here again, i'll be bringing an inflatable sleeping pad that you use for camping. This was a suggestion by one of the other guests that frequented the property a lot.
The common space was good but the kitchen didn't have a stove, only fridges and microwaves

United States of AmericaThe mattresses need to be replaced. They are sunken in the middle so we might as well be sleeping on the wood plank of the bed. It really hurt my lower back. The pillows might as well be a pile of table cloths stack on top of each other. Wish there is some sort of table or counter top to set things on in the room.
Love love love the location. Racks for storing skis and snowboards come in handy. Clothing hooks in the room are very useful. Powerful microwaves available in the kitchen. Two big fridges. As of January 2024 there are no more stoves or oven.

United States of AmericaAny of the staff I came in contact with was pretty rude. I accidentally showed up an hour early for check in, the staff barely spoke English had an attitude and wouldn’t let me even sit on the couch in the hostel so I waited in my car for an hour. Then there was some miscommunication with a guest and me and the roommates were accused of being rude to a guest when we did nothing. Luckily the staff is basically never around. Cleaning ladies were nice though.
Loved the people I met, great location to go snowboarding you walk 5 mins to get on the bus, able to sleep and no one was being loud. Everything was clean

United States of AmericaIt was initially hard to find the place; I had to call for directions even though I was right outside. It's on the same property as the Holiday Haus hotel, which is much more prominent. They share the same office, so it would have been helpful if the confirmation email explained that Moderne Hostel guests must check in at the Holiday Haus office.
I enjoyed my stay at Moderne Hostel in August. I originally booked just one night, but extended to a 2nd night because of weather. The shared room was comfortable and quiet; roommates were considerate. The shared kitchen is large and well equipped, and there's a nice but small shared living room with TV. Wifi worked well. I met some interesting, friendly people. All in all, it was a very good experience.

SwitzerlandVery old interieur. And the weirdest bathrooms I have ever seen. Only one ladies and one gents room. However, containing two toilets, two showers, two sinks. I guess on paper this fulfills the requirements for sanitary installations per guest number. In practice it let to waiting in front of the bath rooms as most people are not so comfortable having someone brushing their teeth, someone else showering while they take a dump.
Best price-value in Mammoth Lakes at the time.
