Very odd situation…the power went out for several hours during a storm. I totally understand that this was not the fault of the hotel, but there was absolutely no one at the front desk (evening) or anywhere in the vicinity for over an hour during this. So odd. After several hours the power came on. The next morning after breakfast our electronic key did not work (presumably due to earlier power outage). We went to the front desk to report this and the snarky lady at the front desk told me I did not know how to use the electronic key. Well … after 2 trips by the maintenance man and us sitting around the lobby for 1/2 an hour, we finally got back into the room. You’d think they could have offered us a cup of coffee or something at their restaurant in house….but nothing. Not even an apology.

    Great location.

Although the staff was friendly, still a bit impersonal.

Historic but not rundown charm. Attentive staff, and just a few steps from all Carmel has to offer.

Our bath tub looked worn, and there was quite a lot of noise from the street late in the evening when the restaurant in the same building closed, disposing bottles. Also, there was no elevator, and the corridors are narrow, which made it a bit tricky to carry luggage to our room on the second floor. Car parking is included, but the number of spots are limited, which is inconvenient. Street parking is also limited, and zoned.

The location is excellent, right in the middle of town and also close to the beach. The interior decoration of the place was in general pleasant, in keeping with classic resort inn styles. The entirely red lobby does pop.

    Just the Wi-Fi situation.

I love the location, the view, the staff, but the parking can be dicey, and the Wi-Fi is horrific. I was not able to work consistently due to spotty Wi-Fi connection, otherwise I would’ve stayed longer.

Parking is not sufficient for number of guests and this was not explained Also there is no coffee or hot water facility to make tea in the room. It is a small thing but makes a big difference as the queues for the coffee shops locally are long and it would be nice to have a cup of tea before bed

Like all hotels, staff seems to be limited. While not that inconvenient, housekeeping was limited to only at checkout not during our 3 night stay. Another casualty of the times was that the lovely complimentary buffet breakfast was no longer offered with breakfast now being strictly a la carte.

We requested a lower floor level room which we were told originally would not be available. However at check in we were told we had a room on the 1st floor. As my wife is somewhat disabled this was very welcome. The reception staff could not have been nicer.

The room wasn't fully ready when we had already checked in. The cleaning lady was still in the room when we arrived. We had to wait for about 15 minutes outside which was a bit awkward.

It has the best location. Right in the heart of the small city.

We stayed in the noisiest room of all the rooms we ever stayed in anywhere in the world. It felt like delivery trucks drove right into your room at 5 AM. Also garbage trucks between 6.30 and 7.30 AM backed up to just below our room window. Every morning we got startled by a truck very early in the morning. And cars that were parked along the street right underneath our window sometimes left with a lot of bravado and revving. Not much proper night rest for us for a village which is actually really quiet and peaceful. We may have gotten the noisiest room because we didn't book directly but through a booking channel. Breakfast is also not complementary if you didn't book directly.

The property is beautiful with lots of atmosphere. We liked the quirky, old style interior and the location is fantastic. There is a reasonable amount of parking depending on the time of day and period of the week/year.

rooms are nice but they’re rather dated as the building is old, especially the bathroom. No air con and the fan didn’t work so it was a hot night, thankfully it was October, maybe wouldn’t be good in summer.

really nice friendly staff, went above and beyond for us and a perfect central location - your in the centre of town and walkable to the beach.

Our room was not a good location facing onto a back area. We would have welcomed a better view.

Mostly the attention and alertness of the staff regarding our booking which was duplicated by an un-known party (scam) and detected by the folks at the front desk. Dinner in the adjoining Il Fornino was easy after a long day of walking and was superb.
