Naha, Japan

It seemed like a newly built hotel. The room was neat, and the furnishings were clean and bright. The hotel is at a few minutes walking distance from a monorail station. The hotel is also close to the ferry terminal and the Nominoue Beach and Shrine. There's also an Aeon supermarket within a few minutes walking distance from the hotel.

There were several things: (1) I messaged the hotel in advance, requesting suggestions on how to get to the hotel. I was hoping they would suggest a train or bus to take from the airport, which stop to get off close to the hotel. Instead, I received a brief reply saying that I could take the monorail or taxi or bus from the airport without any specific details on which station to get off, etc. But no!Luckily, the Naha airport information counter gave me detailed information on how I could take the monorail, which station to get off, which direction I should walk from the monorail station, etc. I was hoping the hotel would provide such information! (2) After I checked in, I asked the front desk person if the hotel had any sightseeing information or brochure or suggestion. The front desk person asked me to check the internet! Really? Luckily, another individual at the hotel had a sightseeing brochure and gave me detailed information on how I could take the monorail to the Naha Bus Terminal and take Naha day tours from there, which I did! I thought any hotel would provide such information to tourists instead of saying "check the internet!" (3) One of the reasons I selected this hotel was the room rate included free breakfast. But the free breakfast was just one of three things: a tiny baguette with a hot dog or a tiny baguette with egg salad, or even a tinier piece of baguette and a plastic cup of salad greens plus coffee or tea. Being a vegetarian, I chose the last one and then bought some snacks at the convenience store next to the hotel. I have never seen a Japanese hotel breakfast without at least cooked rice and vegetables. So, don't be fooled by the free breakfast offer! The hotel is also not close to decent restaurants or cafes as it is 2 monorail stations away from the city center. (4) This is also the first hotel I had ever stayed in Japan that didn't have an electric hot water kettle.

It’s right at the airport so we didn’t immediately have to look for our hotel in the city.

The room was small and not suitable for two people. My sister and I had to share a bed which was not ideal.

We booked through a third party and mistakenly we were booked into a smoking room - it cost us about 20% extra to re-book on arrival into a non-smoking room. Our room was very small for 3 people.
